Pros:
- Bringing back "Prince of Persia" as a Metroidvania was super smart.
- Platforming is tight, fast-paced and incredibly fun.
- Combat is just as fast-paced and intense as the platforming.
- Level design is vibrant, big, and interesting to explore without getting too overwhelming.
- Addition of Memory Shards adds to the gameplay and helps players remember locations they need to hit, which is a noticeable game-changer for the genre.
- While it's part of a noticeably challenging genre, it's nice that the game has quite a few accessibility features to help with that.
- Visual design is incredibly stylish and beautiful.
- Story fits in the "Prince of Persia" style and should satisfy longtime fans.
- Even without the old characters, the new ones are interesting and endearing.
Cons:
- Some of the puzzles and boss fights can be a touch tedious.
Consensus: Huh, apparently Ubisoft knows how to throw a curveball. After years of fans asking for a new "Prince of Persia" game, the publisher FINALLY returns with a 2.5D Metroidvania title. While that might surprise some, don't let yourself be fooled; this is a great way to bring back this franchise. As my first experience with the series, "Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown" is a gem. This is an incredibly fun title that brings the series back guns blazing at the top of its game. At this point, that "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" remake that was announced a while back feels like a blip on my radar, and I don't even think I need it anymore: this is more than enough. Don't miss out on this wonderful little game.
