Quake 4 is a generic, boring shooter

User Rating: 5 | Quake 4 (Special Edition) PC

Quake 4 is a generic, boring shooter that hardly lives up to its namesake. While the gameplay is tight and the lighting is pretty, there's very little reason to give this bland corridor shooter a second look decades after its initial release. Despite its lack of frills, an engaging world, or unique weapons, Quake 4 does manage to keep the action fast-paced throughout its short runtime, but it rarely mixes up gameplay elements enough to stave off repetition and subsequent boredom. A cooperative campaign, which was a staple of the first two entries in the franchise, would have done much to help add some flavor to this otherwise stale experience.
