Schizophrenic game that can't decide what it wants to be; and ultimately fails at everything!
The premise of the game had so much potential, and the game had a nice look to it when I first installed it; however after my very first mission I could see that this game had absolutely no substance to it at all!
I decided to play for several more hours, or rather I should say I decided to "tough it out" for several more hours...in the hopes that the game might somehow, some way, get better. Sadly, it never did!
The game is completely schizophrenic and cannot decide what it wants to be! Is it a racing game? Is it a first person shooter?
Rage might have actually turned out to be a half-way decent FPS game, had the developer not wasted time developing the racing, card collecting, mini-games, etc. ...and instead spent at least some time on the story, and missions! What a complete debacle!
In the first few hours, I got sent on a few missions...and they were okay (but only because the game still had it's "shiny new game smell" yet)...after I got to the first real "city" in the game (after the first two tiny little settlements)...my interest waned almost instantly.
Navigating the city was annoying, as the game decided to not have any sort of map function...aside from a very small "radar" type map when the player is outdoors. So that was another strike against it already.
Then, I checked out the 'Mission Board' to see what sort of things I could find to entertain myself....and 2 of the 3 available missions were to go back to places I had already been!?!?
I decided to go take some missions that seemed to progress the "main story" of the game (if there is one)....and even that sent me back to places I'd been already!
I tried quite hard to find at least SOMETHING, to enjoy in the game....but unfortunately, I couldn't find a single aspect of the game that was in any way redeeming. This was a terrible game in every single aspect.
It's like Rage attempted to copy little bits of Doom, Quake, Borderlands, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and other games...toss them into a blender...and attempt to sell whatever came out!
Definitely glad that I bought this used, out of the bargain bin....it'll be going back on my next trip to the store. Absolute waste of time and money; glad I dodged the bullet and didn't buy it new!
