Good little third person adventure shooter

User Rating: 7 | Scars Above PS5

Combines elements of Mass Effect Andromeda and Returnal to create a fun little shooter that sees you blast, and puzzle, your way through a hostile alien environment. Has some Dark Souls elements but the game is definitely not difficult. Looks pretty good, too, and there is a decent amount of enemy variety and environments.

The game does have a little jank-one puzzles sees the puzzle pieces facing the complete opposite direction of their actual "lock" point and the animation in some scenes is a little off-and the final boss is very disappointing, but some of the prior bosses are pretty cool. The jank doesn't actually affect the gameplay and it actually plays pretty well. If anything is bothersome it's how finicky the hitboxes can be on certain enemies and how similar to Returnal and Mass Effect the game looks. Sometimes the terrain art looks like it was lifted right out of Returnal, the protagonist looks an awful lot like Fem Ryder, and the music feels like it was lifted right out of Mass Effect. That said, this is NOT a rogue-like, so in some ways that's a strength if you ever wanted to play Returnal without its most annoying gameplay element. And the game never crashed or anything on me.

The campaign can take about 7 hours. It's not the richest or deepest shooter in the world but it's well worth at least one run through if you enjoy third person sci-fi shooters or if you just enjoyed Returnal but hated the rogue-like elements. It's a budget priced game, too.
