"A Unique Experience"
Shadow of Colossus is an unforgettable adventure packed with great uniqueness in story and design. You play as a lone horse rider who dares to enter into a forbidden uncanny land. The protagonist unfamiliar with place has to make haste, do something that does not make any sense, but all that as a trade with the unknown just to bring someone beloved to him back from the dead. The protagonist now has a straight and clear target in his mind but he is completely unaware that the actual cost he has to pay is entirely something different, the very reason why the land was forbidden.
Graphics and Design:
The remastered version nicely carries all the necessary details. The environment and surrounding is absolutely superb, with a great orchestra music that really touches your heart. The special effects are great as they were made to be as realistic as possible. Controls are just fine, it actually helps you to realize the adventure. The atmosphere and the vast landscape and that feeling of solitude keeps you involved in the game at every instance. It has High mountainous regions, deserts, rivers, fogs, huge underground locations, lizards, birds, fruits, trees and the colossus. The lightening and raining effects are astounding. The movements of the main character and the colossi seems very natural. e.g. falling from heights will make you feel as if you are the one who is actually falling, when you walk on uneven surfaces you slip, you get tired if you run for too long.
Characters and Colossi
There aren't many characters in the game so we will talk more about the colossus. They have sophisticated designed and there is a lot to observe in their actions. The huge size gives you the creeps and will at first leave you completely helpless with no hope of being alive in next few seconds. You need to observe and use your intelligence in order to get to know how to face them.
Gameplay and Controls
The gameplay is fast. the game being a third person adventure with a great setup, colours, environment and design increases its attractiveness considerably.
The controls are easy. There are a couple of actions the character can perform like crouching, sliding, jumping, stabbing, slashing and hanging. Other than the sword the character is also equipped with a bow. With certain exceptions, the companion of the protagonist was pretty easy to control. It so happens that when you make your horse run like he stole it, he will start refusing to accept your commands. This becomes a head ache when you are fighting with a colossus or when you are kind of lost.
Entertainment and Enjoyment
The game is very enjoyable for 2 main reasons
1- To find the colossi.
2- To get to know the way to kill him.
The game is full of suspense. Also, since the forbidden land is too big, it keeps you busy in search for more mysterious places till the end of the game. Its so big that probably you will leave some places unexplored unknowingly.
The Negatives Points Of The Game.
1. The story is too short.
2. The play time is too short.
3. You might have to repeat the whole set of actions if you play carelessly and that will be time consuming but considering the greatness of the game you wont be irritated by this.
