A beautiful and lovingly crafted game with adrenaline pumping action.

User Rating: 8 | Shadow of the Colossus PS2
The games aesthetic design is captivating, distinct and utterly beautiful. The story is told with few words but still heartfelt and full of emotion. The game is unapologetically sparse, which is an endearing quality that seems to add to its intended art direction. However the lack of variety in game play can't be ignored and extended play sessions will see tedium creeping in, proving that you can have too much of a good thing.

The game is broken up into clearly defined segments, traversing the huge world to track down your target colossus; fighting the ingeniously designed colossus and repeat.

Travel over the huge environment will be made possible thanks to your horse, your ever present companion. The horse mechanics are truly the most instinctive and innovative seen in any game ever, a good thing considering the amount of time you'll be spending together.

The combat system, if you can describe your encounters with the Colossus in such a way are heart stoppingly good. The well thought out controls work perfectly for the unique and ingenious battle events.

The thrill you'll get from the encounters is something rarely if ever matched from any other game. The adventure is focused to a fault, and play sessions are best broken up and played in short bursts. It's clearly the intended design and it's hard to say what could be changed to improve the experience. The uncompromising design has been lovingly crafted, to try and crowbar in extra content would undermine the experience and potentially spoil what makes this game such a revelation and a joy.
