I thought it a bit dorky at first, but I just keep playing it and playing it. I even have my mother-in-law hooked on it. It definitely has staying power in that you can approach it several different ways: You can save your family, you can focus on getting rich, you can be a trader, or you can do all these. You can align yourself with different nations and against others. The historically accuracy is fantastic. Very well researched down to the likenessess of the famous pirates you go up against - Blackbeard, Stede Bonnet, etc. It has so many multiple layers that are all enjoyable. The RPG aspect is not very strong, but it's so fun you won't notice. I recommend it highly, no matter what type of games you prefer. I myself am not a strategy gamer, I tend more to action and FPS', but this game is just plain fun. Pick it up and I think you will agree. I have been playing it consistently for almost five years.
