A great addition to the series, with just the right elements!

This game has all of the right elements to make it creepy. Although not "Boo!" scary, it mixes dark environments with creepy sounds almost flawlessly to create a feeling of utter misery and keeps the player wondering if there's something waiting in the dark around the corner.

Now, although it can become a short game if you play on easy and normal settings, I find that replaying the game on different settings for the puzzle and action difficulties is quite fun. The fact that the player can change a puzzle and action setting independently is a big plus for me.
Enemies look amazing, and each one moves in a different way, and makes different noises. Mixed with the spectacular graphics and spine-tingling, subtle sound effects, they can actually make you jump if you're not paying attention.

Although the camera sometimes makes you scream (mostly because the angles block out whatever is in front of you) they work on different levels. There is one chilling scene in particular, in the basement of the Hospital, where the player walks down a hall and a squeaking noise can be heard. The camera moves to show an overturned wheelchair, wheel still spinning, and a trail of blood leading from it to the elevator shaft. The angle may have been annoying at first, but it adds a sort of cinematic experience and a sensation of paranoia. It makes you think, "What was that?"

Environments are all kinds of creepy, ranging from a dingy mall, a subway, the infamous hospital, and a church. Boss fights are fun while they last, usually consisting of unloading bullets or whacking a monster with a katana. Blood and gore are obviously prevalent, and my favorite options are the settings of how much blood and what color the monsters have. One of my other favorite aspects are the different endings, depending on what you do in the game.

For the most part controls are fluid, and you can actually change between 3D and 2D settings. Sometimes they get clunky, and can be frustrating when you are taking good hard whacks at a couple of Split-Heads, but for the most part they work fine with me.

Personally, I like all of the game's elements; the creepy, disturbing atmosphere, the excellent graphics, the difficulty settings, the creatures, the sound effects, and the overall feel of the game. Try playing it home alone in the dark and the subtle noises of clanking or a random roar in the distance will make your hair stand up.

My advice: Play it!
