-REVIEW TIME- Sonic Mania) Sonic Mania is a 2D Sonic game made in 2017 by Sonic fans and officially licensed as a Sonic game by Sega as part of Sonics 25th anniversary, and takes the series back to his roots as a 2D platform game. It got released on PS4, Xbox one, Nintendo Switch & PC with instant praise from all manner of people, Sonic fan & not. Because they took the series back to it’s roots, it was meant to play just like an original Sonic game, and I have to say it definitely does! Just like the classic Sonic games of old you zoom through 2D levels (new and returning from Sonic 1, 2, 3! CD and &K) until you get to the end where you fight a boss and just like Sonic 3 you have the choice to play as Sonic, Tails or Knuckles, but now instead of just clearing a zone and going to the next, you actually get to see how you travel there. The main mode is Mania Mode and if you start the game as Sonic and/or Tails, you take the tornado to Angle Island where you find five Eggrobo’s excavating some kind of gem. Suddenly you hear a strange noise and get teleported to Green Hill where you now see the Eggrobos have changed colour and shape, and look way more powerful then before. If you start as knuckles, you’ll get knocked by the eggrobos and teleported to a location in green hill that’s different from Sonic & Tails. That’s just about all the story you get out of the game, but it is more then what we got in the original games. The game also features a cutscene at the end and if you wait at the title screen. The music in this game in Fi-nominal. The classic and new tracks really make the game sound like a 2D Classic Sonic game from the past. Each zones Act 2 track is also a remix of the act 1 version. To finish off, there are more modes. As you go through the game you can unlock sound test, Blue spear, and Puyo Puyo (which can be played with 2 players. This is an excellent game that Sonic fans (classic and not) and all retro gamers in general should find awesome. -REVIEW TIME mini- Sonic Mania Plus) Sonic Mania Plus is a DLC add on or physical edition for Sonic Mania. It features two new characters being Mighty and Ray, which if you’re a big Sonic fan, should recognise from the arcade game SegaSonic the hedgehog and Knuckles Chaotix. Sonic Mania Plus also features a new mode known as “encore mode” in which you play through the game again, but with a fresh new look, and a new character switching mechanic instead of lives. As far as DLC packs go, this is an awesome addition to the game, and If you buy the physical edition, you’ll get the game in a cardboard sleeve with an art book and reversible Mega Drive/Genesis cover.
