Sonic Mania Review

User Rating: 10 | Sonic Mania NS

Sonic Mania serves as an excellent return to form to a series with high high's and low low's. Mania takes everything that made the original Sonic games on the Genesis great, and builds upon most of these design elements to a level of near perfection. Never before has a Sonic game been crafted with this level of care toward the level design, all of which serve as massive, multi-pathway playgrounds that work in perfect unity with Sonic's physics and his speed, making blazing through these levels not only incredibly satisfying, but incredibly rewarding to those players who have memorized the layouts of the levels. The multiple pathways you can take in each level encourage replayability, and the leaderboards further ensure that you'll be coming back trying to perfect your times. Sonic Mania is also filled to the brim with references to past Sonic Games in the form of completely reimagined classic zones, like Green Hill and Chemical Plant, and to Sega's long history itself. Mania is far too good to pass up, especially if you're a sonic veteran or a classic sonic fan, and the level of passion put into this game along with the expertly constructed levels will keep a smile on your face the entire time you're playing.
