Just off the mark.

While I appreciate the addition of real peaks, the simple fact is the joy of the original series was the Arcade style game-play, it wasn't meant to be serious, it was meant to be over the top. Personally the "rewind " feature sucks. Sometimes you just can't fix being in the wrong spot with the rewind feature, which ends up being a waste of time. Likewise, the whole premise of falling into the huge chasms and having to restart / reload is a pain, and really takes away the fun of the original titles. The older arcade style off the course reset back in with a delay is a much better solution, especially when there are chasms all over the place right, left and center. I think they went kind of like Gran Turismo and took things a few steps too far - realism is great, but you forgot the fun.

The other thing that really jumped out at me was that the graphics weren't really any better than the last game, I was excited about being able to play this one with my son, but looks like I might just buy a PS2 and break out Tricky which is a lot more fun to play and he will love that one. The current version is too complicated for a 6 year old, too many hazards, too many cliffs to nowhere...

so even though the game is good, I have to call this a fail. The soul of the original titles just isn't there.
