A disappointing game that could have been alot better.
At its core Turbo HD Remix is a barebones game with not many features. The only single player mode that exists besides training is arcade mode. You can either play the remixed mode or the classic mode in arcade. Both modes are frustratingly difficult, even too me who is a long time and above average Street Fighter player. The online mode of play is what drew me and many others to the game, but overall I was very disappointed with the online aspect. The matchmaking system and menus are very clunky and it is hard to find or host a decent match. Once a match is found the game was often times laggy with a lot of random disconnects. This may be the product of the game being out for some time now, but ive heard similar complaints from friends who have had the game since launch. However, when I was able to get into a good match it was fun and balanced. The player match lobby system where up to 6 players can play and watch together is a great feature. All of the characters you would expect are here, and all of the play well. A big problem with the game is that special moves such as a simple fireball and a shoryuken are way to hard to execute. This may be a product of the game or crappy d-pad and analog sticks on the newer controllers.
Like the title would indicate this game is rendered in HD, but just barely. The most disappointing part of the game is that the aspect ratio is still 4:3 and you will be playing with huge black bars on the side of the screen. This game should have been 16:9. With that said the backgrounds and sprites are done really well and each character and background has their own personality. The music is also good in the game but remains largly unchanged from previous versions. Overall I was very disappointed with the game after seeing it had received positive reviews.
6.5/10 Slightly Below Average
