Apparently my professors were wrong about what transistor really is...

User Rating: 7 | Transistor PS4

I tend to like Sci-Fi games set in original settings as I enjoy the genre. Transistor has some really good ideas and the story it tells is interesting although a bit confusing. To be fully aware of what is happening you really have to pay close attention, and also read optional text found around the world and written in functions you found or learn. Mentioned functions are used to fight and defeat opponents in game-world. This mechanic is completely unique as it gives you complete freedom of customizing your character. It's safe to say this is the best part of this game.

Combat takes place in real time with freeze mechanics where you can plan several of your moves in advance and then execute on them while there is very little you opponents can do about it. It might sound broken but it's actually fairly well balanced. You can't abuse this constantly as there is a cooldown that you need to wait for. While waiting you can't use most functions and you mostly avoid attacks. Instead of using this cool mechanics you can always try and fight in real time. However, this is (in my humble opinion) the worst part of this game as after using any of your skills you are rooted in place for half a second or more, depending on a skill used. By doing this developers made sure this is mostly not an optimal approach and I really don't like that.

I liked the art style with graphic being very minimalistic (which is reasonable as this is basically indie game). I enjoyed sound and music but I had a bone to pick with voices. Not that they are not good but all the "bad" guys are very mellow and uninspired which in turn was immersion breaking for me.

Transistor is a 10-hour game that provides a solid experience. There is a certain replay value here with new game plus and in-game challenges. Grade: 7/10
