Rise of the Giant is a brand-new, totally free expansion for Dead Cells. It adds two new biomes called Cavern and Astrolab, each with its own big bad end boss. The titular giant can be fought at the end of Cavern, and you can watch Motion Twin themselves run through the new stage and take the behemoth down in the video above. As for Astrolab, that level can only be accessed after defeating the Hand of the King with four Boss Stem Cells in hand, so we'll leave the contents of that level for dedicated players to see themselves.
Rise of the Giant is the latest example of Motion Twin's strong relationship with its community. In fact, its free release is the developer's way of saying thank you to a fan base that constantly makes suggestions the team implements into the game. The team also plans on creating even more content based on fan feedback.
Motion Twin pulls plenty of ideas from its own team too, of course. The giant itself is an original creation of a technical designer, while the Astrolab stage is the vision of a one-time intern who's now fully employed by the studio. Both stages are filled with new enemies and items created by the team as a whole.
Rise of the Giant is available now for the PC version of Dead Cells. It's coming to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch at a later time. We loved the original release here at GameSpot, naming it one of the best games of 2018.
