Sea Of Thieves Battle Royale Mode Not Out Of The Question - GameSpot Daily

Sea of Thieves could get a battle royale mode on Xbox One and PC if Rare finds a unique spin on it, and the July Xbox One Update is live now for everyone.

Battle royale seems to be popping up everywhere, and now Sea of Thieves developer Rare have been asked about the ultra-popular mode. Game Informer put the question forward, and if Rare ever does implement battle royale, it wants to put a "unique Sea of Thieves spin on it."

"We see the battle royale thing, but I think there will be opportunities to do that kind of thing differently," said design director Mike Chapman. "It's interesting where you can take PvP in the game, but we'd want to put a unique Sea of Thieves spin on it and do something completely surprising."

Rare studio head Craig Duncan echoed Chapman's remarks: "It's not about taking something that works super well in another game, and going, 'Hey, let's start everyone in a Sea of Thieves map from different points and have you all come together.'"

It doesn't sound like battle royale will make its way onto the open seas any time soon, but Rare's pirate romp does have some new content on the way. The Cursed Sails expansion launches this month, while the Forsaken Sails expansion is set for September. Sea of Thieves also gets a number of updates between expansions.
