Announcements To Expect At BlizzCon 2023

World of Warcraft is always a major presence at BlizzCon, and Blizzard president Mike Ybarra has already stated that out of all of Blizzard's franchises, Warcraft will have the most news at the show. Blizzard veteran Chris Metzen recently returned to the studio full-time and will be at the show to pump up the crowd to boot. We can almost certainly expect a new expansion announcement for the modern version of World of Warcraft. For players who enjoy the Classic version of Blizzard's longrunning MMORPG, Blizzard has already confirmed that a new season of WoW Classic is in the works. BlizzCon would be a natural time to announce what exactly that new season will entail. There's also speculation that WoW Wrath of the Lich King Classic could move on to the game's Cataclysm expansion.

Diablo IV quickly became Blizzard's fastest-selling game ever when it released earlier this year, so it's likely a large part of BlizzCon's opening ceremony will be dedicated to what's next for the ARPG. Diablo franchise general manager Rod Fergusson has already confirmed that the plan is for Diablo IV to receive annual expansions, and BlizzCon certainly sounds like the perfect time to announce such a major addition. There will likely also be details about Diablo IV Season 3 and various quality-of-life improvements the team is looking to add to the game in the near future.

For Overwatch 2, it has been confirmed that Blizzard will be revealing the game's next tank hero at the show. While Overwatch, Diablo, and WoW are the three biggest games at the show, expect news about Blizzard's card game Hearthstone and its new mobile game, Warcraft Rumble, as well. Warcraft Rumble will actually launch worldwide as BlizzCon 2023 starts.

It's worth noting that Blizzard is now officially owned by Microsoft. Will there be some kind of announcement at the opening ceremony regarding Xbox's plans for Blizzard games to appear on Game Pass or perks for Xbox players? That's currently unclear, but it might not be off the table. Regardless, there are certain to be surprises, so fans will no doubt want to tune in to watch the show as it unfolds.
