Enlight and Egosoft have today announced that X2: The Threat has gone gold. The space simulation game, which is the sequel to X: Beyond the Frontier, transports players to the X-universe where the game's open-ended nature allows them to make a live for themselves as a trader, a miner, a pirate, a bounty hunter, or even a combination of them all.

"We're very excited to announce the gold master release of X2: The Threat along with Egosoft," said Parrish Rogers, Enlight's executive producer of X2: The Threat. "The stunning graphics combined with the variety of in-game experiences X2 offers will be a thrilling experience for all types of players."

"We're very proud of the hard work every member of our development team has put into X2: The Threat," said Bernd Lehahn, chief executive officer of Egosoft. "With X2, we have taken the intriguing aspects of the original and incorporated feedback from the gaming community to create a more compelling, unique experience in space simulation."

In X2: The Threat, players not only have the option to customize their own ships but can actually construct an entire fleet of ships to aid them along whichever path they choose. Players will be able to pilot any of the ships in their fleet, ranging from nimble scout vessels to powerful capital ships.
