What game do you reach for when you just gotta go fast? Are you a bigger fan of realistic racers, or do you like the cartoon glee of games like Mario Kart?

Voted Forza, but I'd have put the PGR series and TOCA Race Driver series ahead of it. Forza is great, but it hasn't produced the great online racing those two did for me.

I don't care for realistic racers, so definitely Mario Kart. Though I think Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed is even better than Mario Kart and I generally reach for that game when I want to race.

Why no Need for Speed? I mean, the franchise has had its ups and downs and tried a few different things - suffering from a huge identity crisis, but it's been a staple for racing games for a very long time and in my opinion still sets the standard when it comes to sound design and general sense of speed.

But out of that list, definitely Forza. But I'm not surprised that Mario Kart is ahead in the polls, since that's the only real option for those that dont really play legitimate racing games.

I tried NFS, Forza, Mario Kart, GT and Burnout, but for some reason I keep coming back to Driveclub. I also love Motorstorm: Pacific Rift.

Loving Forza Motorsport 5 and can't wait for 6. Used to really enjoy Gran Turismo but as there hasn't been one for a while and we still haven't gotten one on the current gen systems I would have to say Forza is my go to racing game.

But i would have to go with Gran Turismo, its the best of the options by a long short.

@GameSpot: In my case it's Grid series starting from the 2. I did not play the first.

If I had a Xbox it would for sure be Forza and GT for PS.

Forza's Horizon series of games are arcade racers. Although, everything is relative as one can change the settings to make Horizon sim-like or make Motorsport arcadey.

I like racers that lean more toward the arcade side of things, and less toward a simulation racer. I do like Forza, but I tune the "assists" so it's more arcadey. I loved the original Need For Speed: Most Wanted, but it's dated now. I also really enjoyed the Burnout games, particularly Burnout Paradise. And I prefer Forza Horizon over the track-based Forza MotorSport, but Forza MotorSport is so well done I can't help but play one from time to time. Forza 6 looks awesome. But overall, it appears arcade racers are on the decline in favor of more realistic racers. That to me is a disappointing trend, especially when there is room in the market for both. Blur had great potential, but Bizarre Creations made the game much too thin - not enough cars or customization, not enough racing modes or different tracks, not near enough diversity or depth. It felt too repetitive. Maybe the release was rushed, as too many games often are. So, since Blur didn't do so well, developers have gotten a bit gun-shy and assume people want more realistic racers, when in fact Blur didn't have enough content or options to play it - poor execution and it felt incomplete. Put out another world-class Burnout however and you'll see another hit. I dare you. The world could use Burnout Paradise 2 about now, or something like it.

Honestly, I would've picked NFS I-VI for an arcade racer. For a sim racer, it world be Sports Car GT (the predecessor to rFactor). But as far as console racers go... Forza it is. I always felt that the Gran Turismo games were half-assed at best.

I'm torn between Need For Speed: Rivals, Burnout: Paradise and Motorstorm: Apocalypse.

Back in the day I loved Mario Kart (both double dash and 64) and Star Wars Episode I: Racer.

Some of my favorites are Need for Speed: Underground, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, Burnout 3, and Excite Bots.

But if you really just want to go fast, nothing tops F-Zero GX.

@Riprock: All of that is true, but I think the biggest thing that killed Blur was that it was released the same month as Split/Second. While the games were quite different, they were going after the same market. It didn't help that critics were pretty evenly divided over which was better. With no clear winner, they just crowded each other out. I wish Activision and Disney had recognized this as both games were great but could have used a sequel to tighten up a few things and add more content. Instead they just closed the studios :(

@judaspete: I agree. A split market and ambiguous reviews didn't help either game. I'm still disappointed that Blur was nowhere near the game it could have been (which might be true for Split Second as well, but I never played it). But I'm even more disappointed that developers may be using the non-success of these games as justification to vacate the arcade racing genre, when it has more to do with poor execution and marketing than what gamers want to play. It's a tragedy, including the shutting gown of the studios. And yes, Smashbrossive50, S&S All-Stars Racing was a good arcade cart racer - fun, plenty of depth and diversity and 1000 gamerscore in my pocket. In the meantime, long live Forza! And maybe NFS will find it's identity again.

Mario Kart by far of the options presented.

Throw in some Burnout, F-Zero, and others and I'd have to think about it.
