If I am lucky, I'll get the Zotac Trinity and pay less for the 3080 than I did for the 2080
@davillain-: Cool although I realized I'm not gonna buy either card day one. Still good as I never really considered Microcenter an option before you brought it up. If I can get the card the same day I pay for it then I'd definitely do that over waiting 2 - 7 days for it to be delivered. There are 2 other microcenters much farther away from where I live but I wouldn't mind making the trip if they have the cards in stock too. I'm gonna wait to see third party benchmarks of the RTX 3080 and then see benchmarks after the RTX 3070 releases to decide if I want it. Now the real struggle is if I have the patience to wait till holiday season starts. It would feel weird to buy a new high end GPU a month earlier while my other hardware isn't up to par with it. A R5 1600 already holds back my GTX 1080 in playing games at 1440p 90+fps even with graphics turned down. I'm sure the RTX 3080/3070 will have more than enough raw power to make up for the bottleneck but I'd rather not do that. Hopefully a good deal on the R7 3700X happens before it is late November as I don't wait to spend Thanksgiving break waiting on PC parts to show up instead of gaming on my new beast.
Skipping it for sure. Where too far into this generation + games are still running on old engines.
90% of games i've played in the last 12 months either have been extremely well optimzed or had moderate at best requirements.
I'd rather just wait for 4000 series. Ironically I see alot of people upgrading because "new game engines are coming soon and "it has better ray tracing" but by the time both are utilized the 4000 series will be out...... (lol)
Benchmark leaks for the 3080 has been spotted: Alleged GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card test leaks online Take this with a grind of salt until the embargo is left on 9/14.
The 3080 is not 100% faster than a 2080 Super. It is not double the performance Jensen claimed. It is around 60% faster which is about average since the 3080 is really the Ti version this generation if you look at price compared to the 1000 series. Roughly 30% faster than a 2080Ti which is the average performance uplift you see from Nvidia generation to generation except the 2000 series which was 24% faster than the 1000 series. But still, the 3080 is still a formidable GPU, but it seems the 3090 will be the true bell/whistle. I'm now curious to see what the 3070 will fair.
i gotten to the point atm i will skip it due to cost and also power draw on this hungry cards
Beastly performance requires power. I don't see them being that power hungry anyway. 2080 Super is 250W and 3080 is 320W. 3080 is a lot better for 28% more power consumption. The cost is not that bad either. 2070 FE launched at $599 and 3070 FE is launching at $499.
If you already own a 2080TI, RX5700XT, etc, you're not going to see much of an improvement immediately. It'll be a couple years. So, if you already have one of the above cards you might as well just wait a couple years for lower prices, or until the next generation comes out. As I do not have one of the above cards and am already struggling to maintain a smooth 120hz, I probably will be upgrading but I am going to wait to see what AMD comes out with later.
Keep in mind next gen consoles only have the power of the 2080TI and that is what a lot of AAA developers are going to be targeting.

It's a lot for an aircooler. Remember when AMD released R9 295X that had like 300W power rating?

You are being too generous with the next-gen console performance. Even the XSX isn't as powerful as a 2080 Ti. You target what you want on PC anyway and it is not up to the developers. I am coming off a 2080 Ti and can tell you that it could not do everything I wanted at 3440x1440/120hz and 4K/120hz. So, I will have immediate improvements when I upgrade to a 3080.

Sure, but as games get more demanding over the next couple years, how long before you're back to where you are now with a 2080ti?

One can never have enough performance. That is why hardware is always evolving. :)
So... anybody successful in getting a 3080? I was up at 6AM PST ready to go. I was hitting refresh on multiple sites with no luck. So, I gave up and went to my local Canada Computers and was able to order one in store, but no ETA. I was looking at the cards with triple power connectors (MSI Gaming X Trio, EVGA FTW3, Asus ROG Strix), but they all suffer from similar power limits as the cards with less power available. This means that most cards will OC around the same. So, I ordered the ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 3080. It is the same price as the FE card, but has better cooling and less noise. It seems pretty solid for a budget card...

I may change it up for another card, but no other card has convinced me that it is worth spending more on.
This is clearly a bullshit paper launch and Nvidia is just fucking with everyone. There is such limited supply out there. I am pretty pissed off about wasting so much time already trying to get a card.
I ordered one. However the site I used first failed and opened up 10 minutes early. If I had known I most likely would have gotten one. However the site crashed shortly after the official launch and it took 45 minutes to register my purchase. So I might get one around October 7th.
