i think you need to learn about sampling...you cant say whats the best pc game...its not a fair representation of genres, hence you need to break it down to, whats the best fps, strategy, simulation, sport, etc...for example if cod, bf3 and quake wins...what people think that best games are fps? no...hence needing propper aliigation

Battlefield 3 - The first game to really bring together graphics, animations, audio, destruction, scale, massive variety in playstyles, gunplay and vehicle physics, in fact speaking of vehicle physics, the flight model makes 1 v 1 dogfighting le pure, i.e top jet pilots like Kulagin(http://bit.ly/yyw5LB) dying 0 times to even slightly less skilled pilots.

FreeSpace 2 - Single player, multiplayer, open source still updated to this day, the space sim that was so good it, in fact, effectively killed its own genre, it ended the era of big budget space sims back in 1999 and I imagine this will eventually happen to other genres as well although there have been some small budget but interesting titles popping up recently such as Black Prophecy and Minerwars 2081. http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/freespace_2
