Quake 1 or Quake 2. Which one you prefer?

Now, that the Quake 2 re-mastered is out. Which ones you guys prefer? I had a wow effect when I first played Quake 1 with the new elevated 3D graphics. But the game overall looked "brown" to me. Even John Carmack stated so. Quake 2 I would argue was a better game. I had started playing the expansion Reckoning about 7 years ago (beat the original Quake 2 on my GeForce 4 exactly 20 years ago ironically in the summer of 2003). So, it's good now that I can go back and play the expansion like the Reckoning since I didn't get too far into it with better graphics. As a Quake fan boy having played through all of Quake 1 - Quake 4 was really excited about yesterdays announcement.

Which one you prefer and why?

....now if only they ID did Quake 5.
