I'm thinking about ordering a brand new rig with RX6600XT - the price is good for these times.
Upgrading from GTX970, does anyone got any driver issues with ATI these days? back at the day they were horrible.
If you want 100+ fps on 1080p for competitive shooters then 6600XT looks like a good choice, it does the job and power draw is not crazy. But I wouldn't buy it at double MSRP for sure. How much can you get it for anyway?
All the information out right now suggests prices are going to be high for the foreseeable future. So if you really feel like your current rig is not delivering the performance you want, then yeah, might as well get the new one. Good deals are going to be rare for now.
However, that 970 should be able to give smooth performance on new games at 1080p on Medium-Low settings for the next few years. GTX 1050 seems to be the minimum for the big AAA stuff, and your 970 is a reasonable amount more powerful. If you can live with that, you will probably find a much better setup for much less in about two years.
It's been just 2 days and it's already sold out. It's a not must upgrade for me since I game most titles on medium - max graphics which is fine by my standards.
3060Ti sold here at 1000$, the RX6600XT was at 625$ which was close to the price of 3060Ti when it came out before the Corona outbreak.
I think I will wait for more demanding titles to come out rather than just wasting my money ATM
@gerygo: You really missed out on Best Buy when they had massive restocks on those RTX 30XX series with MSRP prices too. My recommendation is to see if Best Buy will do it again soon as they seem to be keeping up with demands so far.
Simply put, don't give up. You gotta keep looking for restocks with MSRP, check Best Buy & Micro Center are the only stores I keep an eye on, don't give up, you can do it!

I do not live in the US but I've seen the line at BestBuy - 170 people waiting just to get a GPU
Meanwhile at Nvidia HQ:
@PfizersaurusRex:
I wasn't on a budget but I did limit myself to as minimum as needed. I did went wild on the RGB this time.
My current rig got only blue Windforce logo from my GTX970 card which is humble and neat.
Damn- GTX 970. Does it even reach minimum requirement these days?
I've played Gears 5 on max graphics at 60fps.
Some games I leave at recommended which is medium, while others recommend high, sometimes I tweak myself to max and try if it's good or not.
BF5 for example asks as minimum Graphics card (NVIDIA): NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 1050 / NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 660 2GB.
So yeah I pass the minimum and can even play on medium, medium graphics are basically what consoles have.

660 is like 8 years old.. Damn
I hope you enjoy the upgrade!

I hope so too, no DLSS and no ray tracing :( I hope AMD alternatives work fine.
I'm rocking dual 970s lol.
...
(cries)
I had dual 970s too..... 5 years ago! hehe :)
Anyway, I replaced them when the 980 Ti launched as I was so sick of dealing with SLI.
I haven't had any issues with SLI, other than no games support it. Ah well. I can still game well at 1080p on 24" monitor so....all that matters until the GPU apocalypse ends, if ever.

I would say no games supporting SLI is a major issue. LOL
I bought my 970s to replace dual 670s and to be able to make the most of my 1440p/144hz G-Sync monitor at the time. On paper they were great (much better performance than a 980 for not much more). That is of course if games actually supported SLI or didn't take forever to release an SLI patch, if games didn't have frame pacing issues in SLI, if they didn't have SLI specific issues like flickering textures, etc.. SLI support was pretty good with my 670s, but it became a disaster with my 970s. So, I gave up and swapped them for a 980 Ti and never regretted it.

970 is old but it's technically like 4x faster than what the last gen consoles had and they still make modern titles for those systems. My wife has my old 970 in her system and it's not bad for 1080p even games in the last 2 years. Games that are at least average optimized you'll get high (not very high) settings and poorly optimized games a mixture of medium and high.
You'd be surprised, game engines for the most part haven't really changed a ton in the last 3 or 4 years
After hearing about Nvidia's upcoming (rumor) of the RTX 40XX "Supers" are on the way, I'm just gonna wait for the RTX 40XX series to arrive next year, this year's GPU is BS. I'll have better luck with the 40XX and glad I didn't jump to the 30XX.

This is something he pull out of his ass but hey, you'll never know. My RTX 2070 lasted me this long, I could see myself go for the 4060 Ti or 4070.

It's still a great GPU to this day, it can run Cyberpunk 2077 well, just don't think you can go high settings with it. It's one of Nvidia's best GPU they put out back in the day.
@horgen: I'm playing it on the latest patch (at the time of speaking) and so far, its really gotten better since launch but even so, I didn't have problems on launch either as the PC version was more stable, it was the console versions that was the major problem. It runs well on my RTX 2070/Ryzen 5 5600X.
