Well i am not joking, i am really on my 8th! But looks like i am just very unlucky with them. Longest lasting one i had was my first 60gb which lasted about 1 year and a week. Lucky i bought extra insurance :P The bluray laser broke in that one. Cant remember how the others broke but last one broke during the latest update. Got to 66% then stop working. Yellow light came up. Ate LBP 2 :( Will get it back though. Funniest one that broke was when i was playing mass effect 2, shot a shotgun, made massive explosion, then ps3 must have also exploded (not literally).
I've only have had one PS3 So far, hopefully it stays that way for a while now, which is the PS3 I bought last year and is a 120 GB Slim, would like it to have more memory on it though.
My launch 60gb got the yellow light of death after 2.5 years, so I sent it in (out of warranty) and paid $150 for another one. That one died a year and a half later. Rather than paying the increased price to have the 60gb repaired (approximately $200) I decided to get a 250 gb slim and give up backwards compatability. That was a year ago. It's still going strong, but it has grown noticably louder. The problem is, once you invesst in headsets, Move, extra controllers, and a library of games, you are kind of trapped in sticking with a console. I wouldn't doubt the TCs claim... the PS3 hardware isn't as rock solid as some people would have you believe. He may not be able to spell 'break', but I believe him completely.
luckily i have an extended warrenty with continuous play when they were actually letting people sign up. £5 a month for as long as i want to keep it going. So luckily my PS3s have not cost me extra money :P
I had bought 3 Playstation 3's. The first PS3 was the PS3 40giger which was excellent I bought brand new. It held 41 PS3 game saves. I filled up my 40GB HDD with just 41 gamesaves. But I sold it when I found the Playstation 3 60GB with card readers and the backwards compatiblity with Playstation2 games.
Then I got the PS3 120GB Slim console at launch. So I have 2 PS3 consoles a Phat and Slimline. none of my Playstation 3 consoles have given me anyproblems.
So 3 PS3's for Me. 40GB 60GB and 120GB. just have 2 now.
