Gavin Newsome, Govna of CA is facing a recall vote.

Larry elder is the leading Conservative in the polls, if in by some wild miracle Newsome is recalled.

I don't think he will be recalled, democrats in CA seem to love and praise Newsome.

But if he did, how wild would it be to see Larry Friggin Elder take his place.

For those of you who don't know, Larry Elder is like the black version of Rush Limbaugh.

The guy comes across as more professional than Newsome imo lol. But ill be honest I have no dog in this fight, i don't live in CA nor really care for it.

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/09/ca-gov-gavin-newsom-faces-greater-than-expected-threat-in-upcoming-recall-election.html

Recent polls show that more voters oppose Newsom’s recall than support it, but an enthusiasm gap between Republican and Democratic voters has created uncertainty.

In a poll conducted by the University of California, Berkeley, and the Los Angeles Times in late July, 36% of the state’s registered voters would vote to recall Newsom, while 51% would vote to keep him in office.

The numbers among likely voters were more evenly divided with 47% favoring Newsom’s recall and 50% favoring his retention.

This indicates outsized interest among Republicans, who have been the major area of support for the recall, the poll said.

or even crazier caitlyn win?!?!?!?

Newsome probably not getting recalled tho, CA lefties love him.

I kind of want to see Larry Elder win just to freak out everyone in California. I Live here and democrats are, for lack of a better word, pretty silly about some things in this state.

If Elder wins, I don't think it'd be a good thing, but maybe democrats would realize they need to be a little more moderate.

I don't actually expect any of that to happen, just a thought.

For the record, Larry Elder is nuts; he is Clayton Bigsby (black white supremecist from Chappelle Show) made manifest and wrapped in a suit.

yeah me too and i dont even live in CA lol

kind of reminds me of game companies these politicians, once they think the have the playerbase on lock, they get lazy/comfortable, put in minimal effort and sell you micro transactions.

competition is good sometimes, CA seems to have forgot there is even a 2nd party since Arnold lol

If Newsome and the other DNC leaders in California weren't scared shitless of Larry Elder, they wouldn't have tried keeping him off of the ballot. An attempt at rigging an election and taking choice away from the voters that the left conveniently ignores in their cries that Republicans are going after voter rights.

His skin color absolutely had a lot to do with it, because if a black man were to improve the state, and did so on the Republican ticket, it'd be very hard for the left to sell their race baiting nonsense going forward.

My opinion of Larry Elder though? He reminds me too much of Bush.

It could be interesting for other reasons, too.

I don't know who Larry Elder is, but the OP lost me when it described him as, "the black version of Rush Limbaugh."

I think they're scared. Politico published an evidence-free article of an ex declaring he's an abuser who pointed a gun at her. Cali Dems have gotten regulators to dig into his finances.

I couldn't give less of a shit if he won. As long as Newsom is gone.

@mattbbpl: well in that case I don't want him to win, and I hope he takes a long walk off a short pier.

Not surprising he jumped on the anti-mandate bandwagon I suppose.

And yeah, I didn't know of him until recently as well. I think he was well-known to right wing folks because they seek that stuff out, but for moderates and anyone else they probably never really heard of him, or much from him.

Yeah I read up on him. Did the whole bit: talk show, FOX News consultant, Prager U, etc..

Seems like a pretty lucrative gig.

This is a fascit power play by republicans. Elder is only on top becuase of a dilluted ticket. He is a ignorant sexist idiot who would destroy the state. Republicans need to move to the center if they ever want to win in cali again. Elder would get zero done as the democrats would refuse to back him on anything then he would get bulldozed out in the next election.

These stupid recall elections need to be ended. I already signed petitins to recall whoever wins if newsome gets this stolen from him.

I really don’t know what to think. They say the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know.

I got my sample ballot, and I’ll be voting no on the recall. But Larry Elder is ok I suppose. I’m not a strict one party guy. I vote for whomever makes better sense of the issues.

Kinda hoping Elder doesn't win for the simple fact that I don't agree with a lot of his ideas. Some are alright, but his whole thing against the minimum wage, against employment pregnancy protections, his stance on public schools, and health care scare me a bit. I understand his view on smaller government, but that doesn't mean I agree with it.

Larry Elder could potentially win which is horrendous how these things work. His entire platform is nonsense and he would most certainly make nothing better in California. With that being said, if he wins it's certainly a symptom of how awful these recall things work.

Letting some right wing goon win with less than a quarter of all votes, democracy at hand!

When looking at the data I must say it's quite the opposite, this is mostly a conservative started power grab because they can't win a real 2 person Gov race in CA. The following poster is correct when looking purely at the facts,

@thenation said:

More details on this,

How California’s bizarre recall system could elect a Republican governor and oust Newsom - Vox

Here’s where it gets bizarre. Newsom needs to win a majority of the vote to stay in office. If he fails to get that majority, his replacement can win merely by being the top-vote getter in a crowded field. Tworecentpollshave shown conservative talk radio hostLarry Elder(R) in first place with 23 percent of the vote — a small plurality that could still make him governor if Newsom loses the recall question.

Now, in theory, the recall process is all about giving more power to the people so they can boot out politicians they think need to go. Who could be against that? But the devil’s in the details about just who “the people” happen to be, and how that choice is structured.

The handling of the replacement candidates is also unusual because, unlike in typical elections, there are no primaries beforehand in which the field is sorted. So this time around there are 24 Republican candidates, 9 Democrats, and 13 others from third parties or with no party preference. With only a plurality necessary to win if Newsom loses the recall question, and no runoff, this poses the possibility that someone with a small slice of the vote would end up governor.

This thrills conservatives, since a conservative candidate would have little chance ofwinning a typical two-candidate California election.

Will of the people for CA kinda' gets thrown out the window with how this works.

They're always up to some weird schemes rather than just getting better ideas and having more votes in regular elections. Between stuff like this, gerrymandering, and voter supression it's just so sad.

Then they have people like Eoten tricked into thinking it's the CA Dems who are pulling a fast one even though it's factually the other way around.

What a blessing it'd be to see a Californian Governor actually take crime seriously along with supporting law enforcement.

It's probably not going to happen, but after 2016 I just don't take anything for granted in politics anymore. The thing is, no one around where I live is really talking about the recall. They are aware of it, mostly against it, but not really taking it seriously. Plus it's happening September 15, when nearly all other elections happen in November. I could see this ending up with such a low turnout, that only the most hardcore anti-vax/mask folks show up in any big numbers. I guess what I'm saying is Newsome getting recalled is unlikely, but still possible.

As for my opinion, everyone involved with making this happen can go to Hell. It's a waste of money with a low chance of success, in the 3rd year of a 4-year term. All they've done is stretched election-campaign season out into a two year process instead of one. The only winners here are the lobbyists and political strategists.

I'm a lefty and even I don't like Newsome. Dude is trying to pave his way to becoming a career politician. Rich, elite, scum is what he is. People say California is left but it's far from left. They're just dumb and rich. I wish we had better options to choose from.

@thenation: Ok... honestly... how's Larry Elder possibly winning an election fascist when the Dems didn't want to add anyone and are telling voters just to vote no on the recall? Seriously, even by Dem standards, Newsom is atrocious. Elder would be in for what... a year? Then probably get voted out.

Yeah I don't necessarily like Newsom but he isn't terrible.

It's just typical fear mongering "Oooooooh crime is up! It's the democrats' fault!".

Ive been called a fascist, communist, nazi, socialist and anti american. Why? I dont support Trump or the Republican party.

This is a fascist power play, you cant spin it any other way. They cant win fairly so they sneak in thru the backdoor. All the while using lies and fearmongering to do it.

Dunno if he's a facist, but he's sure as shit a nutjob that would lose a regular 2 person Gubernatorial race. Which is why conservatives started this.

It’s hard to fathom in this deep blue state where Newsom clobbered his 2018 GOP opponent, although his job approval among voters plunged from its high in the early months of the pandemic. But the coronavirus pandemic shifted California’s political landscape in two significant ways: It prompted a judge to give recall supporters more time to collect signatures — keeping their campaign alive long enough to gain momentum — and it led Newsom to enact a slew of new restrictions to curb the spread of the virus that have frustrated some Californians and energized recall backers.

The recall petition doesn’t say a word about the pandemic — it was written before the virus upended normal life. But it gained a surge of signatures after news broke in November that a maskless Newsom joined lobbyists for a dinner party at the posh French Laundry restaurant, even though he was telling Californians to mask up and avoid socializing. The count grew as the state’s unemployment system paid out billions to fraudsters, and its chaotic COVID vaccine distribution left people scrambling for shots. As many schools, churches and businesses closed during Newsom’s stay-at-home orders, the recall that began as a conservative rebuke of his progressive policies morphed into a referendum on his pandemic response.

Now it’s election year again in California, and you’ll soon be asked to toss a governor just a year shy of the end of his term. Here’s everything you need to know about recall elections in the Golden State.

@zaryia: I know nothing about Elder and won't try defending him on a character level. Simply running for the position though doesn't make him a fascist.

@thenation: What's your definition of fascism and how is Elder running being fascist? You didn't answer my question... you side stepped and then flipped the question against SargentD.

You answer the above first.

"Republican activists have been trying to recall Newsom since shortly after he was inaugurated in January 2019. Five attempts failed to get enough signatures. But a sixth try, led by a retired sheriff’s deputy named Orrin Heatlie, gained momentum after a judge granted supporters extra time to collect signatures due to the stay-at-home order at the start of the pandemic."

Seems like it was started by mostly GOP donors and Republican activists according to that chart and article , like my article also pointed out. And probably because they are aware of this scheme,

Wasn't California run into the ground the last time they had a Republican governor?

@Telekill: nobody said he was a fascist. I said the recall is a fascist power play. Elder is just taking advantage of it. The gop has been trying to do this since newsome won.

It's a "fascist" power play, to use the built in recall mechanism which is available to either party? Interesting.

I don't know if I would call it fascist, but certainly a petty power grab.

As I laid out earlier,

Republican activists have been trying to recall Newsom since shortly after he was inaugurated in January 2019. Five attempts failed to get enough signatures. But a sixth try, led by a retired sheriff’s deputy named Orrin Heatlie, gained momentum after a judge granted supporters extra time to collect signatures due to the stay-at-home order at the start of the pandemic.
