Beginning of the end for Sony

Microsoft has now dealt the crushing blow to Sony and analytics are predicting the company’s collapse before the next gen is out.

But do you think Sony’s downfall was inevitable from the beginning? Microsoft certainly made mistakes but ultimately they could afford to do so. Sony, a company stifled by a lack of innovation and a hostile attitude towards consumers, was going up against a company with unlimited funds, the ability to sweep up influential publishers and is now clearly paying for their arrogance.

As Microsoft now sweeps away the charred remains of their biggest competition, perhaps Sony will at least be remembered as the company that dared. And then lost.

Don't be ridiculous. Sony will still move more units and do well, but MS will be more competitive.

Last time I checked PS5 preorders were selling out like crazy.

Sony certainly is on a losing streak:

-less powerful next gen hardware

-lost Disgaea 6 in the West

-Isn't getting Monster Hunter Rise

-loses big Western series in the name of Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Rage, Doom, Dishonor

yea the writing was on the wall starting with the ps3 when they first showed their weakness.

pricing the ps5 as the same price as the series x which is more powerful plus losing 3 of the biggest games in gaming elder scrolls/doom/fallout. will make people question why they even bought a ps5.

But don't stress it. The game is going to be multiplatform but you will be playing on your PC.

Microsoft's goal is to make money. Not participate in your sad fanboy fantasy. They won't make money on this deal by excluding the majority of gamers from buying the games.

Aside from Fallout and Elder Scrolls Bethesdas games don't exactly light the sales charts up as it is.

Fanboys need to calm down with the Sony is doomed topics, MS spend 7.5 billion and 1st they need to make that money back and go from there, just look at minecraft, MS target is to be a streaming service just download an app and do monthly subscription just like Netflix and to be successful you need a lot of subscribers. So i don’t see Bethesda games being only Xbox and PC exclusive maybe timed exclusive until they reach their subscription numbers goals and can sustain that model just from subscribers. Enjoy gaming the way it is now

The very existence of this thread is proof of the desperation that reeks from both camps. Words of sanity to both camps:

Cows: This is a grand move by MS. TES, Fallout, and Doom are both well known franchises. This is big for MS, and have definitely set them up fantastically.

Lems: If these games aren't launching with the system, then Sony or the ps5 don't have anything to worry about immediately. Let's not forget that most of Sony exclusives put up terrific sales numbers, and while Doom have had a recently successful IP, TES haven't had a game to launch in a while, and the last Fallout left a REALLY sour taste in most gamers mouths. So for the sake of sanity, let's wait and see if this acquisition spells Sony's doom (in which I HIGHLY doubt it will).

They'll do fine......have no idea where this Sony negativity is coming from, considering the success of the PS4 and likely PS5. There is NO doubt in my mind that Sony WILL have the better games as usual. Microsoft lack passion and rely on brute force...it won't pay off.............trust me.

But the idea that a trillion dollar company needs a Sony is laughable. Their are 15 million Xbox users who have Game Pass. That number is growing rapidly daily. It will only increase as we move into next generation. Understand, right now their is 0 PS5’s in households. Same with Xbox Series. MS doesn’t need PS5 footprints at all.

Xbox is in great position. With the purchase of Bethesda, Xbox now has some of the greatest IP’s of all time. Just thinking of obsidian making another Fallout game has me over the moon excited.

I mean, I love SP games myself, and Sony Santa Monica has a few good titles. ND used to be top notch but now are a laughing stock. You're gonna sit there with a straight face and make that claim?

We all know of Bethesda, but you include all of Xbox's developers? C'mon man!

Maybe Turn 10 Studios or Playground Games. 343i Industries/The Coalition is a no go and get trashed all the time for never living up to Bungie/Epic Games. Rare is a ghost of their former 90s selves as well. Naughty Dog is one of the best in the business and Sony Santa Monica is not far from behind. I would put maybe Turn 10 or Playground close to their level...but it's hard to compare when they make totally different styles of games.

PS5 owners will still be able to play Skyrim and it's not like TES6 will be any different.

I'm curious, who will be "owned" more if these games still come out for PS5? Will it be lems because this deal did nothing for them? Will it be cows because their funding MS? Or will it be both because they are all morons!?

I mean, the only successful Xbox console outside of US was 360 - which is also the only Xbox worth mentioning to date.

Either way it will benefit Microsoft, either in the exclusivity or in revenue from the games sold on Playstation.

Agreed. I don’t keep up with Bethesda news but i know whenever people talk about fallout it’s always something bad. Even the best developers can make bad games I.E Naughty Dog. So i hope Microsoft actually helps make Bethesda’s games and make them less buggy and maybe then I’ll be tempted to give their games a shot.
