Hmmm tough question even for me lol. Spent hundreds of hours into Mass Effect trilogy and Knights of the old republic I/II, story and choice wise Kotor series is definately best , but combat wise i give it to Mass Effect.Still i'm undecided which was more enjoyable for me, both addicting and awesome series 50/50 =P

wbu warriors? :)

Mass Effect 2.

As far as Star Wars I was way more into Rogue Leader or Jedi Academy for my Star Wars gaming fix.

Kotor for me, I disliked Mass Effect after the first one. They watered down the RPG side of the equation and turned it into almost a third person shooter only.

KOTOR = poorly consolized RPG

ME = a properly consolized TPS with good RPG elements.

i'm with you on this, both are awesome and they are pretty even in my terms of enjoying them but i think i am going to give a slight advantage to mass effect for having an original interesting lore even if they didn't fully take advantage of that.

I like Mass Effect 1 & 2 a lot, but I love Star Wars games. Dark Forces/Jedi Knight, X-Wing/Tie Fighter, Rebel Assault, Rogue Squadron, Republic Commando, Rebellion, KOTOR, etc. - all were awesome.

Mass Effect trilogy > TOR trilogy....although The Old Republic Era is some of the best Star Wars material. Revan's story is now over. And it looks like The Old Republic era is going to be canon.

But Mass Effect is a far smarter franchise, but it has some really dumb fans who cannot accept that the Extended Cut ending fits the franchise.

Dragon Age is at best a B-level franchise.

Going to say this...overall gameplaywise, ME1 is the weakest, but storywise, that goes to ME2. Its main plot simply wasn't very good, unlike the character stories, which really boosted the game. If Bioware is to remaster the game, I think the Horizon mission needs to be altered.

ME3 is the best....its got a good plot, but excellent character development and its got the best gameplay of the bunch, including multiplayer. The only problem with ME3 outside of the now dead original ending was Kai Leng's character, but he wasn't much of a factor.

I like Kotor more, love star wars, love how bad ass I could become in those games, some of the choices I could make where unbelievably evil, basically killing someone because he sneezed (guy in the locker), so great.

mass effect because its rpg lite. i dont really like heavy rpg stuff, too much time sink and i get bored after a bit.

They're both among my favorite five games ever... I took a hiatus from gaming during college and drifted away from the hobby a bit to stay focused and when I returned, it was upon playing kotor. No game in its first playthrough has been it's superior.

As for mass effect, I just simply love that I was a space marine rolling around the Galaxy with my favorite side characters in any game ever. Hundreds of hours of playthrough later I still love returning to mass effect 1 most.... The most atmospheric of the three games by a long shot, it had the greater ambition than the other games.

Lets face it, if you're looking at the three mass effect games stand alone, mass effect one told the best story by a looooong shot.

Tldr version... Depends on which side of the bed I wake up on :P

KOTOR.

ME 1 and 2 are among the most disappointing and buyers remorse causing games I've ever played. I honestly don't know how anyone can think those crappy games were even good much less great, from the story line to the "Oh shit this is really bad" gameplay, nothing about those games is really good.

Seeing as Kotor is basically tied with Halo CE for me as best games of their time,, I want to say Kotor but with 3 Mass Effects and a forth coming, my interest is now Mass Effect > Kotor. Now, bring on a Kotor 3 Bioware and that will likely change. :P

I do hope they will rerelease the original trilogy in 1080p/60fps as I've missed out on ME2 and 3 even if they were at the very top of my backlog list.

I liked Mass Effect better. Even though the game has really changed from the first to third, it still was fun. I liked the combat, story and characters. Was never really into KOTOR even though I am a huge Star Wars fan.

my feelings exactly. me1 story/atmosphere is top draw, it gave u that sense of exploration and wonder that i never got in the series again until near the ending stages of me3. overall i would say me3 is the strongest but the ending is fukin complete shit.

me2 story just dragged on. sheppard forced to play judge judy and settle every ones disputes was the whole plot but i guess in a trilogy the 2nd game is used to build up to the finale

That would be perfect for those like yourself who haven't already played them kinda like me getting to play the this gen GTA5 for the first time since I never played the last gen version but I won't get to play it until Christmas since my son already told me he bought it for me so I didn't go out and buy it myself. :)

Along the same lines, I'd love to see a Kotor total remake also using the Mass Effect combat system too boot, day one baby. :D

I say it and boom, it's happening... Kotor 3 on the way.....

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/star-wars-vet-leading-new-2k-studio-working-on-mys/1100-6423967/

"Though details about Hangar 13's first game are being kept under wraps for now, we do know a lot more about the man leading the studio. Blackman spent 13 years at LucasArts, working in a variety of roles on games such as Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and MMO Star Wars Galaxies. Blackman later left Lucas to co-found Fearless Studios, an independent outfit that was later acquired by Kabam. He worked there for around a year as the company's general manager, working on The Hobbit mobile titles."

Of course I kid a bit but I do that now & then. :P

@SecretPolice: it'll never happen... The day I read that Bioware was considering ToR as kotor3-8 or however they put it was the nail in the coffin for that franchise being a standalone single player experience as it was originally designed.... I weep to this day. ToR is not the Kotor sequel I was hoping for.

Wow, they are both so similiar that it is hard to say. I loved Kotor because it just felt amazing at the time, Mass Effect has a more open feeling to it though. Kotor feels like Mass Effect lite now with a few twists. Both are great games though.

Knights of the Old Republic by leagues. I love the Mass Effect games... but KotOR and The Sith Lords hold a special place in my heart when it comes to Star Wars and gaming. I played the first game probably more times than all my playthroughs of ME 1-3 combined (ME- close to 10, ME2 - 7-9, ME3 - 3).

If any games need to be remade in modern HD glory with fully updated assets and remastered voice overs (including a voice for Revan and the Exile) it's the KotOR games. And hey, maybe they can complete The Sith Lords this time.

'Story' elements/writing wise...no doubt.

Gameplay/systems/mechanics/content wise, you gotta go with Baldurs. (before Bio went into dumbed down cinematic mode)
