I do.I use save wizards on PS, trainers or cheat engine on PC to give me infinite XP, money, upgrade materials, items as best weapons or gear because I don'tve patience to grind.I use God mode , one hit kill on highest difficulties to get through certain games quickly only to unlock special items ( Resident Evil bonus weapons, infinite ammo for all weapons for example).

Do you guys cheat in single player games?

Please share your opinion,

Thanking everyone in advance.

When cheats used to be easy, sure.

Big heads in FIFA. Spawning a tank in GTA.

I do use a trainer from time to time, but not all that much, to be honest.

Nope.... nor do I save scrub. If I get caught stealing I deal with the consequences.

But after I beat a game. I will go through a new game+ with a fully sooped up inventory and infinite whatevers.

I use console commands on games when it's to save time. Fallout 4 for example, I'm making a settlement and I run out of Aluminum or something like that. I'll use a CC to get more Aluminum so I can continue building rather than go and farm more, come back, and try to remember what I was doing in my crafting because it took me an hour to get what I needed.

@kazumakiryu21:

The only games I've cheated in are old GTA and Fallout 4. And maybe Saints Row but only 3 and 4.

No I dont.. But I see nothing wrong with cheating in a single player game. If its multiplayer though, then hell yea I have a problem with it.

Depends. If I just wants to speed through games I use cheats cause no way I am grinding in jrpg especially one of those games that give low xp. Nowadays I dont really do it cause I enjoying hunting hard platinums.

I don't regard it as cheating but once on doom 2016 a boss glitched and couldn't move I took advantage.

I used to all the time but devs stopped putting cheat codes in the game as they found a way to monetize it. Jacka$$es.

Haven't cheated in a while. But these days, cheats are pretty much for people with any kind of disability. Or at least intended so. TLOU2's menu just looked like a cheat menu. On/off, all that stuff.

In GTA, sure. But, I wouldn't really call it cheating if it's inclusion is deliberate.

Depends if cheats are fun. I don't remember they are anymore just God mode etc. and I usually do if the game is extremely grindy and I need resources though I also stopped playing those games altogether.

Not like I'd be above it if it made the game more fun. But nah, can't think of any instance in recent years. Used to get more mileage out of some games with the old Game Genie. Aside from that, last time was probably fucking off in GTA years back?

Yeah not my jam. Would suck the fun out of most games I'm into.

I used to cheat all of my single player games.

Over time, I noticed a diminished desire to play games and found myself bored because there was no challenge.

Within the past year I've made an effort to play games the way they were meant to be played and have enjoyed gaming a lot more.

There are rare exceptions where it cuts down the grind or avoiding microtransactions like Days Gone or AC Valhalla

Used to on a few PC and home console games that I know that have cheat codes. However, like a previous poster before me, I found myself losing interest in the games I used cheat codes and stopped using them. It has been more than a decade since I cheated on a video game and I am fine with that as it helped me maintain my one-and-off interest in gaming for over 39 years.

not really no. I think the last game i cheated in was the original crysis. it becomes a lot more fun when the rate of power drain for stealth is greatly reduced (but not eliminated).

but i find the game i am currently playing enjoyable enough without cheats and dont think cheating would make them any more fun.

Of course it goes without saying that this only applies for SP. for MP i cheat all the time! MWAHAHAHA!!!! :P j/k.

No - but I wouldn't hesitate too if I wanted to. By which I mean, if a game is generally something I want to see through to the end and it's going "haHA f*ck you, my dev was drunk when this bit was made" I don't see why I should suffer. Especially if I sunk a lot of time in before that point

I hex edit my saves to put myself in absurd scenarios.

Like XCOM with every country withdrawn from the project, forcing me to rely on Piracy to Survive.

Very, very rarely, unless QOL mods to fix certain annoyances count as cheats. Like when I modded Oblivion so the attributes level up by flat increments, because f*** having to micromanage my skill level-ups. Or the respec mod for Total War: Warhammer, because I'm sick of getting Lords with points in skills I don't want whenever I confederate. Or when I modded XCOM 2 so the mission timer only starts when my stealth is blown, because I didn't think it made any logical sense for the aliens to be destroying their own stuff when they don't even know I'm around. Things like that.

The last time I remember outright properly cheating was FTL: Faster Than Light, when I modded it to remove the advancing wall of doom. I admit, that one simple change instantly turned the game from a Dark Souls-like death charge at a brick wall ad infinitum into a relaxing cakewalk. Still, made the game more fun for me; turned it into something of a bite-size Star Trek RPG I always wondered why was never made, Mass Effect aside. Always thought that was prime RPG material, but I digress from this tangent.

@Pedro: had a friend up my street who always got the new sharks... They were fun to noodle with I remember, but I never took them serious beyond that. Always liked beating my games as intended. Failed a lot of times too.... Especially older games. Castlevania 3.... What a bitch.

Rarely, but if I find something that is unreasonably difficult or super annoying, I don't mind using a cheat to progress past it. Also, sometimes it is good to use a cheat just to experience a game in a different way.

The only time I cheat is if a rule is self imposed. I know I've cheesed a nuzlocke a few times, for example.

Otherwise it's not worth it, if a game is too hard or too long to get through in any reasonable sense without cheating, I just quit.

As for for-fun cheats, I don't usually fiddle with them anymore but I do have fond memories of messing around in gameshark or with cheat codes to get things like big heads and dancing dinosaurs in the N64 era.

Depends.

Sometimes if I get the gist of a game after 10-20 hours I might use some shortcuts. Like in Subnautica if I don't feel like scavenging any more I might use the console to just give myself the items instead of spending a few frustrating hours looking for materials so I can build items.

But nothing blatant these days. I don't noclip or godmode like I used to :P

Yeah they really make it easy for us. Even when it's hard it's just a matter of enemies having more health, not really being more challenging

When are they going to develop better AI?

I imagine it is, based on what little I know of programming (which is next to nothing :P ) and I reckon it has little marketability as well.

Though....maybe it does? Apparently some people love brutally hard Soulsborne-type games so AI that is super punishing might be the next big thing.

I hear "AI" pop up every so often in articles as I skim the internet. Usually it's more in industry terms (not gaming) and I think the term is "machine learning" and stuff so it seems like research is being put into it.

I don't know, maybe I am being nostalgic but I remember being blown away by Half-Life, of having the marines flush you out with grenades and having their friends wait for you with guns ready. Seems like we haven't really come very far since 1998.

The AI in Soulsborne games are basic AF. 😂

I am considering using machine learning for AI but that requires an entire new skillset to master but it has the potential to be the most beneficial when it comes to AI interactions with the player.

Depends on the game and availability of cheat features within the game. COD4 MW and MW2 Remake both have cheats in placed, for example. Also TLOU2, when you have enough points to unlock Unlimited Ammo and when you're careful not to spend points on photos.

Nowadays, it's nearly impossible to cheat when Trophies and Achievements are in place.

I don't. I figure you get more out of tye experience by just going through the game as it was intended. Sometimes walkthroughs or guides may help, but I don't use cheats.

@Pedro: While I do agree that the AI in soulsborne is extremely basic. I think the point he is trying to make is how much more difficult the games can get with good AI. A devious AI can make even undertuned enemies difficult.

Thracia 776: Has some extremely undertuned enemies, but the AI is so devious, that it still ends up being one of the hardest entires in the franchise. Charging with you in formations, with a lot of fail-safes, willing to trade to contantly hit you with the worst stuff, always going for kills, and captures, ect. All while trying to stay out of your range and protect its weaker, more fragile forces.
