Poll Do you own a Switch? Is it a must buy? (118 votes)

I own a regular Switch. 69%
I own a Switch Lite. 3%
I own both! 2%
I don't own a Switch, but want one eventually. 4%
I might get one. 8%
I don't want one. 14%

I've had my Switch since day 1. Love the system. I think it's my favorite Nintendo console. I love the form factor and the library is the most diverse I can remember on a Nintendo system. It's not just a Nintendo system in my opinion. How about you, SW? Do you own a Switch? Want one?

Yes I have the regular Switch and have had it for nearly two years now. Excellent system with a ton of excellent games available and many more coming down the pipe. I think that it is definitely a must own system.

I don't own or need one.

No offense to Nintendo but I don't need to pay more for something that is inferior on every level to what I already own, and Nintendo's games don't interest me in the slightest.

I have a Switch and I love it. Can't tell others if it's a must buy as that depends on the type of games they like.

Sure, I have a regular Switch.

It's now my primary console - I barely turn on my PC or PS4 anymore, and I prefer the convenience of the Switch version of multiplats.

I think it's a must-have for anyone with remotely busy lives, and especially anyone who needs to share a TV screen with partners. I can't imagine playing a 150 hour RPG on anything other than the Switch nowadays.

I have the regular switch, the nintentax makes buying games for it and bit harder. I don't want to spend full price on a game that came out over 2 years ago, it's really off putting. Games are decent though if they are your sort of thing.

I own a Switch and It is the best console/hybrid whatever I have ever owned. I just love it as I use it on the go all the time. I also play it on the big screen so it is just perfect for me. (75% handheld 25% on TV). I also own over 50 games for it, so it gets a ton of play. Must own? Really depends on what type of games you like. For me it is, but I like Nintendo games and indies.

Regular Switch. Love it. Probably the best console purchase I've made in... Since the PS2 at least. Just a really great device

Love my switch, I can't call it my favorite nintendo console (NES will always hold that for me), but it definitely is the console that has gotten the most play from me this gen.

Ive had more playtime on my Switch than all my other gaming devices pretty much since Ive had it day 1. Easily my favorite console ever after the PS2.

I own a Switch Lite since I don't feel I'm missing out playing Nintendo games on a big screen this gen. They make great portables anyway, and the exclusives have been really good. It's been a worthy purchase so far.

I love my Switch... it's easily the system I play the most nowadays. I love it's portability, and Nintendo keeps pumping out the awesome games (this year has been awesome!).

I think the future is very bright too!

I own the regular model and am generally happy with it. I have quite a backlog on it now. I haven't played it much this year due to clearing some games on the PC but there were 4-5 games released for it this year alone that i want to get. I certainly am not struggling to find games i want to play on it.

As a gaming device i think its also nice. no fluff, no bloat, just games....and youtube. Netflix would be nice but its not a killer feature.

The basic level of features of the OS was initially a bit of a shock to the system. coming from even the wiiu or 3DS, it's basic. But its actually refreshing. it gets you doing what you want to do quickly and generally stays out of the way which, really, is what an OS should be all about (well that and maximising the use of the resources of it's host hardware...which i think it does very well).

I am not an online or competitive player so i dont really care about any of that. even on my PC i don't play online so meh. I definitely wouldn't recommend a switch though if you are big into your online gaming (and the fact Nintendo now charge for it is laughable to be honest).

Joycons are good (i havent bothered with the pro controller, i'm happy with the joycons as they are). The motion controls are a massive upgrade from the wii and the rumble is pretty cool. I haven't played anything that makes use of the IR camera but i admire the wackiness :P. I haven't had the drift issue but that does look gnarly.

The screen is nice. Sure its only 720P but its a good 720P screen with nice rich colours. Going higher res would make no sense. I would like to see a 9-10" switch though with bigger joycons to match...that would be nice.

I also do like the flexibility of it though i mainly play it on my monitor.

Is it a must buy? it depends on your tastes and what you are looking for. it has many great games...library is not a problem. It has plenty of great exclusives too.

It's also the go to complimentary system imho. If you have a PC, PS4 or X1 and are looking for another system i think the switch should be the next port of call. It's very different from the other platforms and will offer something different and refreshing.

It will not scratch your high performance, 4K, high end graphics or online play itch very well though. if these are important to you then it may not be for you.

I don’t see the need for one personally. It lacks power, has poor third party support, and is laughable online. I miss Nintendo games mind you, but not enough to make me grab a Switch. I’d probably just buy Mario Odyssey and call it done. No thanks. I’d need more games to make me buy a console.

I own a switch... Been playing games since the atari 2600 and the switch is in my top 3 consoles of all time. It made gaming fun again for me.

By comparison, my ps4 is a doorstop.

I don't know that any console has ever been a "must buy". But if you like to explore a variety of games that you normally wouldn't play, I'd say it's a great platform to own. If you like to have portable versions of games, especially indie games it's a fantastic platform as well.

It just works pretty damn well, so I am very happy with it. And I kinda hope that they will use the Switch concept as a basis for future generations of hardware.

I was going to get one when they announced Panzer Dragoon but since it's coming out for PC too. I'm good.

I kinda want one just for the Nintendo exclusives but I'm going to wait for the next version of the Switch. And even then I'm not sure I'll actually get one.

Switch has a solid, very solid library and a decent price point for a “next gen” console which should get the attention of gamers unless, of course, one just has a general dislike for Nintendo products much like myself when it comes to Sony consoles.

That would be awesome. I kinda get the reasoning why they didn't want to do a new one, but I think it can be successful. Mobile games can never really replace a dedicated portable gaming machine in my opinion.

@SolidGame_basic: if anything switch is proof of concept that handheld can run BIGGER games! I really like the passive gaming lifestyle much more than feeling like I'm detached In my cave. I want the handheld option from here out.

Seems Microsoft is moving towards streaming which I guess we'll wait and see.

I think Sony was smart to wait and let the mobile dust settle before jumping back in too...

I own one, but I never use it since there isn't anything on it that I particularly like, especially from Nintendo. The portable part is superfluous to me, because I don't play games on the go.

PC+PS4 are the only systems that I consider must-buy this gen.

Best system for exclusives. Best system for RPGs. (seriously, being able to take your game with you to work/school especially since you can't find a save point before you have to leave is worth its weight in gold)

I got a Lite now, I'm enjoying it more than the regular Switch I had since I care way more about portability, and the Lite's way better for that. Definitely a must buy, too many good games.

The Nintendo Switch is an alright console. Only a must buy if your really into Nintendo first party games. I only got the Switch after almost 2 years. The Switch is a great indy games machine. Some of the ports are very good.

A bit over priced and under powered. But Nintendo has made a fun console. So it is worth buying makes a great secondary console

I've had a regular switch for about a year and a half now, and it has sat collecting dust the vast majority of that time, except the occasional Mario Kart local co-op session. At some point after clearing some more steam backlog I'll tap into the BotW and Mario Odyssey I bought, bust aside from exclusives I don't really have any use for it as a primarily PC gamer. I was thinking of getting the Megaman Zero collection for switch instead of steam, but not only is it too big, awkward, and fragile to be properly used as a portable (like my 3DS can), but the joycon buttons suck for 2d platformers, IMO. And in up on the big screen in console mode it's low-resolution jaggies as far as the eye can see.

If it were more portable I'd be using it a lot more, but as it stands it's just an awkward, under-powered console, with poor (if cool) controllers, IMO.

Its seen as a game for kids and they are the best at with a kid winning $3 million in the (give me a bucket) world championship recently.

Now you tell me how not owning a Switch makes me NOT a real gamer.

Been on the fence of getting one since Smash Bros. Ultimate came out. If there exist a decent sale to buy one this holiday, I might go all in. If not, I may end up upgrading my gaming laptop instead. Although my GT72S with GTX 980m GPU inside is still running most newly released games strong, I think its about time to upgrade to a RTX 2080 (Q)....
