Do you think Sea of Thieves will flop?

What Xbox game hasn't flopped to some extent this gen?

How many threads do we need to predict if this game is going to flop.

I get the feeling some people are so fucking desperate for it to fail because they cannot bear the thought of a MS game being good.

No offence SolidGame but we had this thread asking the same question like last month! This is like the 5th thread about this.

Anyways, the main problem with Sea of Thieves I can see flopping is the lack of single player and $60 tag is what I can see this game to flop. But however, chances that it cannot flop is the fact Sea of Thieves is heading to Xbox Game Pass which is a smart move and won't even need to pay $60. That's a smart move by MS.

You can play the game by yourself in a small ship, I would call that single player. The only difference is you will have real people as other pirates instead of AI ones. Sound like a lot of FUN IMO. I'm only paying $47.99 for my preorder.

Wouldn't the game need hype to flop? I don't think it's really that hyped around here

Also a great way for microsoft to talk about sale numbers that are not even remotely real.

Oh it sold millions, while in reality it was just sitting in gamepass and calculated the number of views/downloads with it.

It might be another Titanfail type game. Critics will praise it mostly because they might think it is the next best thing and popular , and consumers will also fall for the trap of popularity and hype. 2-3 months later , reality is going to sink in.

Must be similar to Destiny in a way if you wanna play by yourself and since I have a love/hate for Destiny, I'm still gonna play Sea of Thieves with an open mind. Hope the game turns out well since we haven't had a new Rare game in years. I look forward trying out Xbox Game Pass on my PC :)

Personally i believe it'll be like what happened to Sunset Overdrive. Would be a great game and around six months later it's gonna be free for Xbox Gold members.

I really hated Sunset Overdrive due to the humor and it made me not like the game at all.

Who knows? Lets ask this again in a day or 2.

I don't think you can judge it on conventional sales metrics as the game might play a more crucial role to help push Game Pass subscriptions.

my guess after playing the beta a few weeks ago:

it will have a great launch, get good (but not rave) reviews and sell a lot of copies, but it won't have 'legs' - people will get bored of it relatively quickly and stop playing. It has a very high fun factor and novelty value but I fear the progression system will leave people wanting, though who knows, lots of games out there with purely cosmetic progression systems seem to be doing just fine.

My thoughts exactly and this is coming from a guy who actually enjoys Destiny but Destiny 2 was a piss poor of a sequel.

Like Metal Gear Solid Survive people won't even know it has launched.

theres no end game things to do to progress your character

its just awful all around i see it dying after the first 3 days and I don't see a lot of 60 dollar sales i see a lot trials for gamepass going out and then unsubbing to that crap

Complete success, read a lot of interviews on the road map for the game and how the community will be involved. Game will keep delivering on content for years to come to keep me engaged. Also between Game Pass and a lot of the top twitch streamers on board, Sea Of thieves will get a lot of exposure.

You can imagine the usual cow suspects (some already showing their ugly heads in this thread), if it doesn't score well. They'd enjoy that more than any Sony exclusive they supposedly play.

Comedy shows and such aren't my strong points, so you're right about that. Back then, I was expecting similar to Infamous like but I had no idea Sunset Overdrive had that much humor. Oh well, at least I tried the game for myself.

I think it will be incredibly difficult to determine if Sea of Thieves will be a flop or not. This is the first game to launch alongside the MS Game Pass. I don't bother looking at MS quarterly/annual reports (I don't invest in them), so I don't know what their current subscription numbers are. I guess we will be able to get an idea when the developers tweet some kind of "unique" users milestone. Even then, we would have to differentiate between Game Pass trials, actual subscriptions, retail sales, and digital sales.

Personally, I hope SOT and Game Pass are successful. The subscription model is a very interesting idea and can easily lead to the support of new IP development.

It scored well and was one of the great gems for the xbox, if you mean it flopped saleswise? Xbox had sold less than 10 million consoles at the time

No one i know has bought it since it was free via GWG

Then again i doubt 99% of the cows here have ever played it

I've noticed this as well. Some hardcore fanboys here just want Microsoft to fail and drop out of the console race...lol. I'm looking forward to Sea of Thieves, my friends and I are looking forward to playing it on PC; my only gripe is managing the Windows Store. I hear so many bad things about it. I almost wanted to check out Gears of War 4, they had a trial on the store but the reviews were so bad for the PC version.

Really hope that the Windows Store gets a full blown update or something.

Clearly...lmao. Especially on here. I'm a PC gamer first and foremost but I enjoy Microsoft, Sony, & Nintendo. Brought me tons of great gaming moments in the past and I see the pros and cons in each of them.

I hear ya, the worst was last gen imo, many people wanted Nintendo to die, which was such a bizzare thing to read, a company that has provided decades of great experiences, and actual people wanted them dead.

Competition is a great thing, I'd never wish death on any of em.
