FF VI Rebirth Japan release, a new low for the Franchise, Switch still number 1 in sales

It makes sense.

Rebirth is only being bought by people who (1) played part 1 of the remake, and (2) enjoyed part 1 enough to rush out and buy part 2 at launch.

That's a subset of a subset of their regular audience. Throw in people's disappointment with FF16, and of course you're going to have a lower interest in this game.

Contrast this with DQ Monsters 3, which basically sold out.

It's no surprise that Japanese people now like handheld and gacha mobile games.Besides, the most popular games on PS5 in Japan are Apex Legends, Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail

ps5 is getting beat by a portable system in japan. portables always sold the most in japan.

ps5 is doing just fine in japan. so is final fantasy is doing fine as well its number 1. it beat a mario and donkey kong game that came out the same mouth.

@gifford38: Bro it just had a 90% fall, thats the biggest in franchise history. 20-40% stock still sitting on the shelves that will have to be heavily discounted to move. Thats an insane amount of product. This isnt some cheap video game to produce, this is amoung the most expensive games ever created in the history of the universe. It flopped, face it. Square expected to ship a certain amount in the first few weeks and it came nowhere close. It fell 20-40% short. This game wont even get a restock is how back it is.

It just proves that physical is dying and will probably be a limited edition, first day thing in the near future. The cost it too much to produce it for smaller sales. I think the in Japan the mobile and online market is moving the next generation of gamers away from physical.

That is apart from Nintendo which is its own idiosyncratic thing.
