Well it's actually a quite modest build if not for RTX 3090 and 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. I hunted for deals here and there during December. The rest of components are quite budget or mid-range.

Specs:

Ryzen 7 5800X 8 cores 3.8 GHz

EVGA FTW3 RTX 3090

G.SKILL Trident Z RGB Series 32GB DDR4 3200MHz

GIGABYTE B550 AORUS PRO AC AMD Motherboard

ENERMAX LIQMAX III 360 ARGB Black All-in-one CPU Liquid Cooler

Sabrent 2TB Rocket Nvme PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 Internal SSD

GameMax Power Supply 850W Fully Modular 80+ Gold

Corsair Carbide Series Spec-DELTA RGB Tempered Glass Mid-Tower ATX

Total Cost: 3,394.05 USD Tax Included

The particular next gen feature of this build is PS5-quality 2TB of PCIe 4.0 SSD. In the future, I will save up for another 4TB of PCIe 4.0 SSD, when it gets a bit cheaper. RTN 4TB SSD is in the range 600-700USD.

Congrats.

I'm happy with my 3070. That 3090 is way above my budget.

Have fun with your new rig. What are you going to play or do first?

Awesome build. I wish there was a 3080 near me, but I just settled on a 3070. But nonetheless, your 3090 is still top-notch.

Lol modest build. Looks like great parts and will make for an obvious killer system. I luckily snagged a 3900X/RTX 3070 at MSRP before prices have gotten absolutely bonkers. Most places are charging over $600 for a 3900X and I got mine at Microcenter for $399. I have seen RTX 2080S going for $2000😮.

Well, I am still walking through Assassin Creed Valhala, 40 hours in, which, imo, is the best Assassin Creed games to date and surprisingly one of the best action RPGs this year. This build is capable to run it at 4k native and ultra settings at 60-80fps.

Maxed out, lightning, shadows and reflections in this game looks just OUTSTANDING in motion.

Next I will try Read Dead Redeption2 maxed out and Control with Ray Tracing. I had always wanted to play Control but waited until i get an RTX card.

Oh I got some 110 hrs in DrangonQuest XI. Just took a break as it's a LONG game. Probably the best JRPG in a decade. I need to get back to it and finish it these days.

Nice build! You will be enjoying that for sure! I too recently completed my new 3090 build. It's a beast of a card! You need to post up some more pics...lets see and enjoy the actual build itself vs the outside of the case!

A regular one, 4k hdr 55''. Bought it a few years ago on Amazon sale. Lightweight, quite good image for a cheap price. They usually go 300-400USD on Amazon. Good for Netflix and youtube.

They are the few RTX3000 cards that actually get in stock. You don't have to buy them from scalpers.

$3,394.05 A fool and his money is soon parted.

A smart person would buy a Series X and spend the other $2,700+ on games and be set for a while.

I don't spend $500 on a console that won't have anything on until 2023, and by then, i will most likely have an rtx4070 that will run everything available on the X at better fps, resolution and graphical settings. What's your response to that?

Not my fault you still don't own a rig in 2020. If you did, you would very quickly find out how pointless the X is. A console with no launch lineup and zero real exclusives for the next decade plus. What a console.

That's some major gold-chain gaming right there. I just ordered a 5800x myself. Updated my mobo's bios for it so I'm good to go when it shows up.

How much did you pay for your TCL? I use to own a 49in S405 and while I thought it was great for the price of $270 it broke on me just a month after its 1 year warranty expired. TCL has great prices for what they offer on paper but its a lottery when it comes to their build quality.

Do you plan on getting a new TV with a 120hz panel or do you mostly game on your monitor and it has a high refresh rate? I would since you have a RTX 3090, you'd be doing a great injustice to only be playing games at 60fps on that card when it is shown that it can play most games at above 60fps at 4k. Although it is probably best if you wait at least another year for a new TV since HDMI 2.1 with 4k 120hz is still only on TVs that cost at least $800. A year from now you should be able to get something like a Samsung Q70T 55" refurbished for like $500-$600 or a brand new 2021 or 2022 Q60 Model should have 4k 120hz for around that price.

While I'm extremely jealous of your new build, I just don't see the point of the extra spend on the RTX 3090, especially with the news of an RTX 3080Ti.

If you've got the money, fair enough, but the fact remains that these extremely high end cards depreciate in value so rapidly. The latest 3080 is faster than the 2080Ti and is half the price.

I bought mine 2 years ago for 380USD on Amazon and it has been very great so far. It survived one crazy ex-girlfriend who liked to break my stuff in anger and 2000-mile relocation lol TCL usually have great reviews, sorry to hear your broke down so fast.

When it comes down to using TV as a monitor…oh boy…it’s a LONG topic and I made tons of research and here’s my 2 cents of thought:

When you are picking a TV or monitor there are 4 factors that you must take into account: refresh rate, size, image quality and response time.

It’s super HARD to find ALL those factors in one package. Usually, the relation between those is following:

Bigger size and images quality -> lower refresh rate and response time

High refresh rate and response time -> low image quality and size

High refresh rate, size, image quality in one -> HUGE PREMIUM PRICE = 1200USD +

1. Well, 4k resolution requires big size screen: 42 inches and plus, otherwise it’s pointless. Just get 32‘’ 1440p, you will not see any difference from your sitting distance and pay way less.

2. If you want high image quality, big size and high refresh rate you MUST be careful. Many tvs that claim 120 Hz are actually 120Hrz at lower resolutions, and, in reality, are 4k 60 fps.

3. The only tvs that can do 4k and 120fps are expensives ones QLED and OLED. QLED is just a fancy LED tv that emulates OLED quality with software. OLEDs have the best image quality period, that is, the best contrast of black, which, according to some SW warriors, is like the 2nd coming of Lord Jesus.

BUT…OLED suck at static picture and WILL burn out in 3 months. So, OLED is not option for a PC monitor and internet browsing, as I am not that disciplined and careful and leave my PC in desktop screen for hours. Even static smart TV interface will leave burnout marks.

4. So, QLED tv it is then, right? No unfortunately. Both QLED or OLED, the best on the market, in gaming mode, still have response time of 20ms vs PC monitor’s 3ms. So, all the fluidity advantage you get with 120fps you lose it because of higher response time.

So, unfortunately, TVs are for CONSOLES, and monitors are still great for PCs.

But, a few years ago, there was no monitor in existence that could have all 3 factors in one: image quality, big size and high refresh rate. 1-2 years ago there was only one choice: 42 inches, 4k and 60 fps and they cost a fortune.

I got mine LG 42.5in 4K UHD 2 years ago for 800USD. It’s more a designer autocad-style monitor. It was not even HDR, but it was 12-bit color. Nowadays, you can buy an HDR version of it:

https://www.amazon.ca/LG-43UN700-B-Display-Type-C-Inputs/dp/B0821WWXV6/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&qid=1608912214&refinements=p_n_size_browse-bin%3A7328482011&rnid=7328474011&s=pc&sr=1-2

144+ Hz monitors can only do 8-bit colors, therefore their image quality is way worse than 60 fps montors or Tvs. Plus the size factor, a few years ago, 144Hrz monitors could not go over 32 inches if it’s not stretched super-wide and curved. Myself, I don’t like them curved or stretched. I liked them just TV-size, ultra-wide, 16:9 ratio.

So, I had not choice but go with 42in 4K UHD, as there were no other options on the market back then.

But next year, I will get a good QLED 42 - inch monitor, 120 Hz, HDR, and all that stuff. Something like this:

https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-CG437K-Pbmiiippuzx-Black-Monitor/dp/B07Z1212CQ/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=120Hz&qid=1608912724&refinements=p_n_size_browse-bin%3A7328482011&rnid=7328474011&s=pc&sr=1-6

But it’s price is astronomical rtn. It cost like an OLED tv, some 1500USD for 43 inches.

@NoodleFighter: Do those TVs you mentioned actually do 120hz now? IE: not the fake black frame insertion 120hz?

My current qled TV does 120hz, but only at 1440p or 1080p.

@ivangrozny: I own the Samsung Q6FN a 2018 QLED and at 1440p 120hz its input delay is only 9.3ms. At 4k 60 with HDR its 15.2ms. As long as your input delay is 15ms and under you're more than good for competitive gaming. I have no problem with responsiveness in games with it. The 2019 Samsung Q60R can do 1440p 120hz with 6.0ms. The 2020 Samsung Q60T is a downgrade though since it doesn't have 120hz at 1440p or 1080p and its input delay at 1440p and 1080p is 9.9-10ms. The Samsung Q70T can do 4k 120hz with an input delay of 5.5ms and the 55" model cost $800.

The source: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-best-4k-tvs-for-hdr-gaming-7009

But again, the TVs have higher input latency.

The best 4K HDR TVs offer input latency of around 12ms or less, average models around 20ms, and slower screens react in 30ms or more; generally a difference of about 15ms between two screens is noticeable.

For PC, high rate and low latency, you must go monitor.

Read a technical review for each TV you are buying first. First of all, check the latency as it will hold your high fps rate back.

Hmmm, cool, thanks for the info. I will have that in mind. But i do have trust issues with tvs lol. I think for 1440p 120hz, the 32-inch monitor will be a better option nowadays: it is way cheaper, you can get qled quality with input lag of 1-3ms.

And for future-proof gaming monitor like qled 43-inches hdr 120 fps 1ms input lag, i better wait for prices to go down. There is one available but it's very expensive.

@ivangrozny: both q80 and lg cx are excellent for gaming, oleds have faster response times than any lcd monitor and their input lag clocks at like 10ms, same input lag for q80

I ordered a PC with a 3070/3700x from NZXT that should ship early next month. It obviously ain't on the level of yours. Mine will be for work and streaming.

What TCL tv is that?

A regular one, 4k hdr 55''. Bought it a few years ago on Amazon sale. Lightweight, quite good image for a cheap price. They usually go 300-400USD on Amazon. Good for Netflix and youtube.

There's a 32 incher 4K qled sammy tv for $ 399 (Q50). Hopefully would go lower and hopefully with a way to properly turn off brightness fluctuation (it's supposedly hard to turn off on Sammys).

Had a low end tcl a few years back it was perfect except that it has horrible response time (?). Panning the camera in games gave me a headache. Researched, then read that it's very common with cheaper VA panels or just VA in general.

Even then, wait a bit more. Some of the TVs have weird bugs like missing, misleading, unusual cons like no 4:4:4 support for certain resolutions.

I also perceive 4k displays with subpixel dithering as fake. It looks worse. Sony never does it as of recent, even in their cheap tvs.

I haven't researched 2020's line if they have them though.

I just don't think the games are worth it. Red Dead Online is my first AAA PC game in ages, and it's not that special.

@ivangrozny: congratulations!

You try out Cyberpunk at 4K yet? I'm sure that will really test your PC.

I usually buy an upgrade for my rig every Christmas or so (my present to myself) but this is the first time in many years I don't really need anything....and yet that itch is still there haha. Keep telling myself I don't need a 3080/3090 card.

Nice build. Heard good things about the Sabrent, but they are hella pricey. I went with the Gen4 MP600 2TB, which was still a tidy sum.

My system is:

Case: NZXT H710

MB: ASUS Crosshair VIII Dark Hero.

CPU: Ryzen 9 5900X

GPU: ASUS TUF OC 3080

CPU Cooler: Corsair H115i

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB @ 3600

Nvme: MP600 2TB Gen 4

PSU: Corsair RM 850x

@ivangrozny: What's your thermals like with the 5800x? heard they can run pretty hot.

I'm almost there with mine, none of it installed yet.

HAVE:

CPU:5800x

MOBO:ASUS Prime X570-PRO

RAM: 16gb 3200mhz corsair vengeance

PSU: RMX 850 with White extenstions

CASE:Lian Li O11 Dynamic

COOLING: 360mm RAD, distro board, Corsair XC7 water block, 3 corsair LL120 fans, 3 cheap fans,

Still to buy

360mm RAD, 3 more ll120 fans because the cheap ones are loud, maybe another 16gb of ram, 3080(ti?) and water block.

Nice build build but you spent over $3,000 and didn't even get a 16 core processor. The very minimum you should've gotten is the 12 core. Anyway, very nice going with the SSD and congratulations on the 3090.

@lundy86_4: You did it right with the CPU, at least 12 cores is really where you want to be on an expensive build. GPUs can and will be upgraded regularly. I am curious why you went with the Corsair PSU and not a Seasonic?

Congratulations on your build but I would say RTX 3090 is kind of overkill if you intend to game only. I also luckily upgraded my rig with RTX 3080 FE. Fun times.

Pretty fancy build. My thermals for CPU are a bit high: 37C in idle, 65C under load, running AC Valhala.
