Nvidia RTX 5090 and 5080 could be here much sooner than expected (pcgamesn.com)

It’s not just AMD’s new Zen 5 CPUs that are now expected to come out much sooner than we originally anticipated, as it’s now looking as though theNvidia RTX 5090 release datecould be landing well before the end of the year. Not only that, but it’s possible that Nvidia’s new Blackwell gaming GPUs will be announced at the Computex tradeshow in June 2024.

Fantastic news! My 4K 240HZ OLED (which also does 480hz 1080p) is coming in soon and I'll need a beefy card. Hopefully these release this year as the rumors suggest.

Nice! 2 years is a good length of time between GPU generations.

@BassMan will no doubt be all over the RTX 5090 in no time😅

But anyway, 2025 was going to be the start of RTX 50XX line but releasing them late this year is a welcome surprise. The 5090 is said to have 32GB VRAM and that's way more enough for game development in mind. As usual, I don't often upgrade whenever a new GPU arrives. Still satisficed with my RTX 4070 and having 12GB VRAM is a nice bonus but, if the 5070 is getting the VRAM upgrade, I might...just might upgrade and it needs to be 18GB VRAM...

I almost feel sorry for PS5 Pro being left in the dust...almost😏

Meh, doesn’t really matter as developers make games for the masses which means they will never truly take full advantage of a high end gpu.

Untrue if your display can do 4K 165-240hz, 1440P 265-360hz, or 1080p 480hz. Your losing graphics but gaining performance if the developer does that.

@ghostofgolden: 100% agreed.

I bought my 4090 just over a year ago and would be pretty upset if only 9-10 months later it wouldn't be the fastest GPU in the world anymore.

Although I don't have much reason to upgrade, I am planning on swapping the 4090 for a 5090 to keep the title up for another 2 years.

I just hope I get a decent amount of cash for the 4090 lol.

I wonder if they will have a new trick up their sleeve like frame gen with the 4000 series (though it turns out you don't really need the upgraded optical flow accelerator of the 4000 series to do it).

e.g. Maybe they have found a way to be able to generate the the fake frame without having 2 frames to interpolate between. That would be a very neat trick as you could get the benefit of a higher framerate both in terms of smoother motion and also more responsive feeling controls. If they could do that AND make the tech more usable at lower framerates (being able to make a game playing at 30FPS look and feel like it's playing at 60)......that would be a very cool trick. Intel mentioned it in passing as something they were looking at a while back for Xess.

Anywho I doubt I'll be upgrading. My 6900XT still serves my needs just fine and the games i'm currently playing, well, they are so undemanding (Fallout 3 and Shogun 2 mainly) that the fans on my GPU don't even turn on.

I doubt I will be getting these, but I might use it as an opportunity to pick up a cheap used 30XX or 40XX card.

Dont think my 1070 will hold out much longer. It served me for 8 years though.

On a serious note, I think I will get a Steam Deck 2 before I buy a new graphics card.

While it is not a steam deck, I have gotten more use out of my ROG Ally, than I ever would have had from a 40XX card.

@Maroxad: If I were you, I would've swap the 1070 to an GTX 1080Ti a long time ago as that GPU is still the goat. I know few PC gamers are still using GTX 970 and that was a great GPU despite the controversy on the VRAM fiasco.

That is the price I am hoping for. But I need one with at least 12gb vRAM. Lack of vRAM is my main concern atm.

Solidworks was a LOT of fun when my project couldnt even be rendered once it got large enough.

There's one more thing I hope we don't see again for the RTX 5000 series is those 16-Pin Connector/12VHPWR just needs to go. Yes, I know its the fault of the RTX 5000 owners who need to just push harder to connect the GPU itself but even so, hearing all these melting cables is just crazy. Nvidia needs to go back to the old school power connectors as AMD proves it they can still draw more power without using 16-Pin Connectors.

Why do they bother releasing new GPU's so often? Nothing really takes advantage of the earlier versions....expecially since PC exclusives don't exist anymore, in terms of AAA graphical fidelity and performance games??...what i mean is that the console counterparts don't look radically different to the PC ones. We are mainly upgrading for better AA and upscaling minor crap that does little to the imagination. Yeah yeah PC fanboys will lie and argue different cause they're truly blind.

Graphics tech evolution is important. We have come so far. Even in recent years, there has been a nice evolution. When I bought a 2080 Ti, RT was pretty much a no go if u wanted to keep high frame rates. Then with my 3080, I started to take advantage of RT in some games. Now with my 4090, I use ray or path tracing in every game that has the option. Each one of those GPUs is better than the consoles and each one allowed for games to be pushed further. The consoles are low end hardware at this point. The very basic bitch experience.

If you don't care about quality or are too cheap/can't afford it, that is fine. You don't have to upgrade frequently. That is the beauty of PC, you spend what you want and upgrade at your own pace. If you don't want the new stuff, then don't buy it. You can keep using your existing hardware. However, there are others like myself who get excited for these advancements. There are also others that skip generations and are waiting for this new generation to upgrade. Options, options, options.

Because PC gaming is all about giving options. And as it happens. There are a lot of people on a 30XX. Who may be willing to upgrade, now that that their graphics cards are nearing 4 years of age.

Really curious to see a) how the 5080 and 5090 will perform relative to current top offerings and b) how they will be priced.

That being said, most likely wont be upgrading just yet this time around. My 7900 XTX is good enough performance wise for now. But certainly gonna go back to nvidia at some point after this test with AMD GPU (the 7900 XTX is good at raster, but the drivers are a little buggy, and FSR is not as good as DLSS, not to mention the inferior RT, which granted on anything that is not a 4090 RT aint worth the massive perf drop imo anyway but still).

@Maroxad: There's nothing wrong using GTX 1070 if all your doing is just gaming in 1080p/60fps, its fine for most games but games like Cyberpunk 2077 and high-power AAA games do need more VRAM and processing power...even just doing 1080p/60fps isn't enough for a 1070. We still see few PC gamers are still using their GTX 970 ( even GTX 980Ti) for that matter.

You should be able to purchase like an RTX 3070Ti for a fair price and its a mega upgrade from an GTX 1070 IMO.

They don't look radically different, but do look noticeably better. All while performing (FPS) radically different.

Blindness is not being able to tell the difference between running games at 30/60 fps vs. 120/240 fps.

Once the new Graphics cards come out, I will see about getting a used 3090. The extra performance is whatever. But I have been given a bad time due to a lack of VRAM for my engineering work.

Last report from Moore's Law is Dead was it's almost certainly a paper launch if they comes anytime before Q4.

I'm planning to upgrade from a 3080 to 5080 or 90, but I'm in no rush.

Don't help the scalpers.
