Well, you may not want to get your hopestoohigh for a spring Starfield release. Recently, the SteamDB listing for Starfield was updated, giving the game a new release date of December 29, 2023. A new "package," perhaps related to a season pass or other DLC, was also recently added then removed from the Starfield page. Clearly, something is going on behind the scenes with the page.

Now, December 29, 2023 is very likely a placeholder date – that would be a very strange time to release a major game – but it could indicate that a late 2023 release is more likely than an early 2023 release for Starfield. Bethesda has almost always stuck with holiday releases for their big games, after all. Of course, take all this with a grain of salt for now. Could Microsoft and Bethesda update us on the status of Starfield soon? Let's hope so.”

Put me down for team Q3 2024. A game as ambitious as this needs time to cook. The LAST thing we need is another CP2077 or Halo Infinite

If it needs it, then I see no issue with it. Don't release it until it is ready.

Infinite got a year and came out unfinished, so why not Starfield? That's Microsoft games for you. The only 1st party dev you can trust at delivering is both forza devs. Every single other developer Microsoft owns is just a shitshow.

Yeah if it needs more time then by all means give it more time. Things are going to be very busy next year anyway.

Its clear this game will not come out until the MS Activision deal is done. This game is considered their biggest game and a first for Bethesda exclusive after being bought out.

People tend to forget in the past, Bethesda games have always been a buggy mess and for once, they are taking this seriously with this new IP and if it needs another delay till 2024, then do it. I'm giving them credit we're credit is due...unlike 343.

I wasn't in the hurry to play Starfield until its really ready and I got more games to play so yeah.

You brag with that garbage engine they used for one unfinished game and are already abandoning it? lol sony has the horizon engine, ND engine, GoW's engine and bluepoint engine (probably forgetting some), all of which are amazing. Definitely delay it if it needs it.

That said, I've seen the same people who trashed the gameplay reveal (and rightfully so) turn around and bash the game for being delayed (or potential delays).

Probably for the best if they are, with Bethesdas track record for releasing games in a shoddy state, im guessing Starfield must be in pretty bad shape.

Game ran at 25fps in their presentation. Gets delayed by a year, launches and runs at 26fps instead. Bethesda.

It will still release before Star Citizen.

If it needs it then do it, presentation showed a lot of promise, exploration, base building, full story, space combat, ship customisation, multiple joinable factions etc. Unfortunately presentation also demonstrated the game was heavily heavily un-optimised sub 30fps really isn't going to cut it, holiday 2023 would be my expectation provided development is smooth.

Well, what they showed looked terrible. Not that I think the game will be good with a delay, but hopefully it wont be the trainwreck they showed.

I'll play it once is out, and then follow the subsequent threads tracking player counts and sales numbers from the usual creeps.

Didn't saw huge delays with God Of War Ragnarok and a Horizon Forbidden West. Looks like only a Xbox problem for now

Secondly, well, whilst disappointing, whatever it takes to make this no doubt GOAT the best it can be at launch is okay by me.

@mowgly1: that's because God of War and horizon are having the same engine, same mechanics, same gameplay, same structure from the ps4 days but higher resolution and textures. It's not even a brand new game, all Sony has to do is to make a story and release the game. They are iterating on a 10 year old engine. Bethesda is making a COMPLETELY brand new IP with brand new engine thats the difference, let that sink in. It's just like halo infinite where they went from closed linear world game to massively open world with a brand new slipspace engine.

They gave themselves a whole year to release Ragnarok.

Its at least a year late.

Microsoft developers are in a state of chaos with all the acquisitions going on. No excuses but delays are happening to the best of them.

Wasnt the original date november 2022.

The current date announcement by them is First half of 2023. Which is 6-7 months

If what is being said (its a pretty loose prediction at this point) comes to being true it would be 13 months.

Ragnorak was delayed anything between 11 and 22 months

The point is games have been delayed on all platforms.

its a fantastic and flawless engine, there are minimal bugs in halo infinite. It must be difficult for everyone to get used to the engine, but if they spend some time, they will all get better at it. This is the growing pain for new engines, its not like 10 year old sony engines that have minor alterations every few years.
