What Nintendo fan wouldn't want another?TheDidact*raises hand* If there is to be a new Metroid, it either must be Other M 2 (they had a good thing going, just needed a better script and world/art design) or Metroid 5 (2D Fusion sequel). The Prime games were good, but honestly, that could have been any IP and they would have been amazing games. Metroid is at home on a 2D plane. And after Corruption, the Phazon trilogy ended, making a new game would feel entirely out of place. I want a Super Metroid remake the most. In all it's non-linear, anti-hand holding, hyper-fast-paced glory in 1080p @ 60 fps.
They can still do that using other IPs. HarlockJCNo, they can't. The fact that everything they have touched so far has been incredible shows they are ready to do something entirely new. And it's about time Nintendo adds a new legendary IP to their catalog.
Well fans have been asking for a StarFox (amongst other things) from specifically Retro. But to me SF makes no sense.
There was a tweet from a Retro employee (instantly got deleted though) mentioning "crunch time" (presumably E3 related deadline, there were rumors stating that Nintendo pulled Retro's game and 3D Mario last minute because Sony and MS didn't reveal consoles) and also "working on a legendary project"
There are other rumors stating that they are working on a project that appeals to western taste, for example that could be a FPS, a Forza/GT killer. Or what they mean is simply a high budget AAA take on a Nintendo franchise (Metroid, StarFox, F-Zero, the more "hardcore" type)
Another thing to note is that Retro hired art people that worked on high profile western AAA titles.
I've also seen a person known to have contacts / insider info mention that it's indeed a Nintendo IP (take this as a rumor). He did mask it though because his comment could be interpreted as his own guess, but in the context I'm farily sure this guy was actually telling us rather than predicting.
Really hard to tell.

Only with Wiimote controls.
Imagine going back to dual analog controls for combat.
No way, even though scanning with the gamepad sounds appealing.
What ever it is I think it's big really big. Retro really hasn't done much since Prime 3. DKCR was a 2d sidecroller on a non hd platform. I'm sure it didn't take many resources to make. What ever Retro has in the works has been worked on since Prime 3 development ended. I'm hoping for a Metroid game. I hope they break the mold from the Prime series and bring Samus into 3rd person.
This thread reminds that yesterday outside of Nintendoworld Reggie passed by along with Geoff Keighley and they made a point of Metroid Prime turning 10 Sunday, the same day as the Wii U launch :PKaze_no_Mirai
I noted that too, seemed like a random landmark to me to mention if they aren't planning something.
Since it's specifically about the sub-series "Prime" and not "Metroid" in general.
He gave it away?

Actually they had big issues with DKCR's engine. Retro said they did most of the levels after the E3 reveal, up until that point they were optimizing the engine.
They also did Prime Trilogy which released in 2009.
I assume they started working on their Wii U game started Dec 2010 after DKCR, and it will launch after a ~3 year cycle (Q4 2013)

Reggie: So are you excited for the Wii U? Guy: Well I don't know right now. Reggie: Well this Sunday happens to be the anniversary of one of the greatest Nintendo games ever and at the same time the developer is making a new game for Wii U. *wink wink* Guy: Well I know what I'm getting this Christmas!! Reggie: :cool:Yep.[QUOTE="SaltyMeatballs"][QUOTE="King_Dodongo"] Day one if true. I enjoyed the Wiimote controls, but it always felt as if it lacked 1 or 2 buttons to make it perfect. Would be nice if we got the option for either Wiimote or Gamepad controls in this case.As much as I want more 2d Metroid, my guess is Metroid prime 4(along with confirmation of a new trilogy)layton20122D Metroid would be nice for 3DS, sidescrolling in 3D is really nice. Metroid is not a priority but they will probably make 1 for each platform. A few Zelda fans buy the console for that, a few Metroid fans, a few F-zero dare I say, and blam a few million consoles sold. Ignoring Smash Bros too :P

What I mean is the game has to take it abit easy on overly complex enemy/boss encounters in the same sense a FPS on console must respect that the player uses DA and not mouse/kb. The other thing is, they can't go crazy with gamepad functionality cus then Wiimote support won't work.
So they would be holding back design, but only slightly, if you are able to play the game with both schemes. I don't mind that in the case of Prime 4.

It wasn't announced last e3 so then people just kind of assumed that it didn't exist.
But maybe it does and it just wasn't ready to be shown off yet. I hope its real, if it was anyone else other than retro Id think it would be a horrible idea but I think they can make that into something friggin awesome. They made on of the best first person games of all time and one of the best sidescrollers of all time. So they can in all likelyhood make that work too
Paul Gale confirmed he was wrong about that but it was considered at one point.Remember all the rumors of the Starfox Metroid cross over game? It wasn't announced last e3 so then people just kind of assumed that it didn't exist.

that especially makes sense considering that Nintendo failed to get back Banjo Kazooie back from MS. DK64 was very similar.I wonder if it has anything to do with the fruit staring. I hope Donkey Kong 64 2 comes out lol

I thought the notion that they even tried was just a rumor.I wonder if it has anything to do with the fruit staring. I hope Donkey Kong 64 2 comes out lol
