Poll What kind of tv do you game on mainly? (76 votes)

1080p 26%
4k 61%
8k 4%
I only game on a monitor 9%

Just curious how many people like me are still gaming on a 1080p tv. I want to eventually upgrade to an OLED 4k tv but haven't been able to justify the price. So what are you guys gaming on currently as your main gaming tv?

Bought a 4K TV this year. An OLED by LG.

I wouldn't be surprised if most people still game on 1080p, it's plenty fine.

Still on a huge 1080p Bravia. Those things were built to last. I'll probably pick up a 4k fairly soonish, though.

4k. Currently a Q8FN. I'll probably upgrade to something with HDMI 2.1 next year, and this TV will move to the bedroom.

Mostly my WQHD 165Hz G-Sync monitor. Buttery smooth and super responsive, plus the IPS panel looks great.

I have a 65" 4K TV with local dimming zones for when I want the home theater experience. Latency is so-so compared to the monitor tho, even with game mode on.

You won't be seeing the difference on your TV. That's just a fact.

Ironic since you were talking about wanting the best versions of multiplats before lol.

@NathanDrakeSwag: So you’re saying that I won’t see any performance improvements on my TV? 🤔

It’s not like I won’t be able to get a better TV later on anyway. When I said that I want the best versions of the games it was in context between getting the Xbox One version or the Xbox Series X. My TV changes none of that. The XSX version is still better. I’d much rather have that version in my collection then the Xbox One version. I’ll be ready when I get a better TV. No need for you to concern yourself over that. 😅

Do most of my gaming on a 27 inch 2560x1440 Asus MX27AQ. I think it's a monitor designed for photography. I bought it five years ago because I care more about picture quality than really high framerates or amazing response times.

I play some (mostly console) games on my 65 inch 3840x2160 Sony 900e. And some on my Switch display.

55 inch Q9FN (4K). Amazing TV, games in HDR look fantastic.

I also have a 30 inch 1440p monitor which I use for strategy games, old school RPG's etc.

I find it surprising so many people without a 4K screen are planning to buy the new consoles. Maybe they're thinking it's time to upgrade?

LG LED 49" 4K TV with HDR, it was under $400 and does the job. LG is one of the last manufacturers to put component input on their TVs so it's a big plus. I want to upgrade BUT

I was hoping OLED TV's would be cheaper by now but alas

Mainly? That'd be a 65" Samsung Q90R in my living room.

Just a quick "FYI": Usually when I mention it somewhere in discussions (Gamespot is no exception), people confuse it due to the company's weird naming convention (luckily not when they see it in person xD) with the budget Samsung TV's, but it's actually their flagship/high-end TV from 2019.
No longer sold due to being replaced by an 8K model (Q900T) that costs literally twice as much. No regrets there, especially since the current Samsung's own price-point alternative (Q90R vs Q90T) has actually significantly worse PQ for some weird ass reason...

65" LG C9 OLED. It has been waiting for a decent HDMI 2.1 source. RTX 3080 to the rescue! 4K/120hz G-Sync HDR gaming here we come! :)

I play on a 34" Alienware AW3418DW (3440x1440/120hz G-Sync) monitor at the desk. No HDR on it though. :(

Our 4K TV has shit latency so I rarely game on them. I might have to invest in a gsync 4k 144hz display soon tho for that sweet, sweet 3080.

More often than not, a 27" Samsung 1080p curved monitor. If I'm using the big living room TV, it's a 60" 4K.

I was going to initially buy into 1080p again, but the pricing on 4K LED has dropped so much that there was just no reason not to.

I'm happy i did, as i hooked up the PSPro i bought back early 2019, and it looks really good.

Movie and series don't look bad, either!

4K TVs are good, but more importantly is HDR for the content that supports it. Did you get HDR as well?

Yeah it's HDR.

In some games, such as Horizon Zero Dawn, the colors are unbelievable.

Totally, I've just been floored by the HDR in PS4 games in general:

TLOU II, Uncharted, Ghost of Tsushima... They all have fantastic HDR support.
