People constantly blamed Microsofts 2013 e3 reveal for its lower sales. As if MS didn't reverse the policies before launch. They also said it was because PS4 launched cheaper. MS has the cheapest "next gen" console out there and PS5 is showing its far more relevant. PS5 and Series X is the same price. MS even had the power narrative going in. What's the excuse now that MS had proper messaging and lower price from the get go? Can we finally just admit Playstation is just the bigger brand and that 360 only got as far as it did because of PS3s late launch and high price?
I will never understand how the Xbox momentum with the 360 faded the way it did. The 360 was hands down the better console, with better games and better performance. (RROD or not). Nearing the end of that gen the tides turned and Xbox hasn’t been the same since. It’s as big of a fall from grace as we’ve seen in gaming. Phil is throwing EVERYTHING at consumers, and it’s yet to show a positive result. Let’s hope they can hang in there until these new 1st party games launch.

Meh. I think that they’ve been doing pretty well for themselves in steering things around and getting back on track. They’ve a very good platform with the Xbox Series X, some very good services with Game Pass, and have really added tremendously to their stable of franchises and developers. I’m very satisfied with where they are and where they seem to be going myself. 🤷♂️

I don't think anyone reasonable was/is expecting Xbox to surpass the PS5. It also doesn't mean that not being first signifies that there's no point in existing. There's viability to the Xbox current project, they just have to keep their head down and follow their plan.

The PS3 was ahead of its time in more than 1 way, online you could play 30 vs 30 and 8 players co op thanks to dedicated serves and free while MS was freaking ripping people off with P2P.

@goldenelementxl: Because by that point they no longer had Bungie, Halo wasn't going in a great direction, Gears was getting stale, Fable flopped, and MS had just closed a bunch of studios. That kind of killed any momentum they had going.
At that time Sony had The Last of Us, Ni no Kuni, Dragon Crown, Puppeteer, exclusive KH collections, various collections of PS2 hits in HD like Jak, Ratchet, and was securing a lot of indies.
PS3 finished strong and it gave people a lot to look forward to. The way 360 finished nobody knew what was coming next or what to look forward to.

I use to be huge ms fan. I loved my 360 ( even if I did get rrod, ms gave me a replacement for free) but yah I love my 360, and thought it was best console ever made. Then I got a ps4 and tried out the Sony exclusive and that made me realize how bad the Xbox franchise really is.

Were you not here when Digital Foundry got big? They made their start showing 360 performance and resolution advantages over PS3... I mean, Kojima's own game ran better on 360.. EA sports titles, COD... You name it... The PS3 was a POS

I guess all those screenshots I posted of Gears 5 and Flight Simulator just appeared out of nowhere. 😂 It only cost 5 (now 10) bucks to have access to all of them. And I bought FS, meaning the well is currently dry for me on Xbox content I would pay a GP sub for. Why do you think they made the move to PC? If anyone's not playing Xbox games, it's you.

I think the Halo thing was a pretty big blunder that cost them. It was their one flagship launch title. It boosted the narrative that MS can’t do exclusives.
But if MS keeps pouring in big dollars and then giving away all exclusives for cheap, people will come to their platform. The Bethesda thing will attract customers if given enough time. So I think MS will slowly, but surely even the game. It won’t be cheap for them though lol.
Even if the Bethesda games come to PlayStation gamepass is still the better option in terms of value. MS just need to keep adding quality 3rd party until the games are ready.

My point is that Microsofts can't really do anything to best Playstation. It's just the far stronger brand. Microsofts messaging was strong and they're being outsold once again. To everyone saying they're both sold out. You know the demand for PS5 is way higher. Series X is way more readily available.
