Affordability and performance. It simply can't be beat, and with Gamepass, it's the best decision anyone could make right now. Playing the PS5 and the Series X both made me feel meh, like they were trying too hard and not achieving much. I can't say enough for the Series S at this price point.

Microsoft really hit it out of the park this gen with the Series S. It's not clear that any other console on the market right now can compete. Best buy this gen.

The series S is for those who don't respect their hobbie. If i had a friend who mained that system for the whole generation, we wouldn't be friends for long.

We'll see how it goes, but certainly, the Series S has surprised me. I knew the logic of what Microsoft were trying to do; launch a budget console to push for scaling as fast as possible, which is a keystone in Microsoft's Game Pass strategy. I just didn't think it would work, and Microsoft would be better off focusing on one SKU.

That I turned out to be wrong is very good news for Microsoft, and a sign they are on to something. They might very well achieve the "Netflix of gaming" goal they crave after all. Maybe that's why even Sony is starting their own not-yet-but-maybe-eventually Game Pass competitor.

It's no wonder gaming and those who enjoy it gets a bad reputation. smh

I have a good high-end PC but that's beside the point, (or not really) I don't need an Xbox Series X when I got a beast of a gaming machine but still, I decided to get an Xbox Series S just to play past title games since MS added 70+ more BC games and there are games I do want to play/replay so make sense to buy Series S when in time, I do need a break from my gaming PC and feel like playing games on the Series S that has yet to come for PC. $300 for a current-gen console, not too shabby if you Ask me.

Series S is perfect for the millions of kids and parents with 1080p TV's in their bedrooms.

I got one just for 60fps 360 games.

I held out until I could find a Series X last week. I had a few chances to get the S, but it feels like a console that is going to need a mid gen upgrade more than the others. Having said that, the value is amazing. I have to hand it to MS on this one, it's a great budget console.

I'm sitting here playing this thing and despite having a decent gaming laptop, finding myself feeling like it's a completely different beast. I used to drag my laptop to the tv and playing some things on the couch, but the media capabilities, speed, price, and ease of use have me sold. Amazing console. I can't say enough good things about it. My laptop fans go nuts while gaming. I can't even hear the S.

This thread reeks of:

"I bought an xbox series S cause it was the cheaper option yet I feel like having my purchase validated by others so that I can feel better about it and dont end up with buyers remorse"

Thats what I'm gathering from this thread, honestly....

For it's price point and I guess you're right they've got a good GamePass with plenty of good games.

Saying PS5 is better - probably if you've got the money and you found one.

@navyguy21: its a great console for anyone. The price is right at $300, and it's a very quick way to get into the xbox ecosystem and gamepass. It's good enough to be standalone but imo, where it shines is as a complimentary device.

If anything nintendo has proven is that weaker hardware can not just exist but also thrive and I'm glad MS went that route as well.

I think MS will sell mostly series S by the end of this gen in a 60/40 split, maybe even 65/35. And honestly for MS ot doesn't matter if they sell the X or the S. Both are just gateways into gamepass. The S might even be more beneficial for MS because people will be forced to buy the digital versions of games they want.

I can see why it'd be good for some. Don't have any experience with it myself, but if the console doesn't overheat and his somewhat silent, and can play most games in 60 fps at 1080p, I will agree that it's a good machine.

For me, a console has never been more useless though. Got a desktop PC. Even Series X would be completely useless.

Remember series S has 3 times more 120fps games than the PlayStation 5.

And any pc gamer will tell you it's all about the FPS,they banged on about it for years

Just like current gen consoles aren't able to hit their 4K mark, the series S is not capable of hitting its 1440p goal.

Which means 1080/60 which, let's face it, is perfect for most people. A lot of people out there don't own a 4K TV.

This is correct. We have two 1080p TVs and see no reason to upgrade until they die, and when that happens, if there are still 1080p TVs and they're less expensive, I am buying another one. I could not care less about 4k.

The digital version of the ps5 is non existent like it’s big brother. With the S you get access to hundreds of games for cheap with a gamepass subscription. The same is not true for the ps5

I have an s it's good for what it can do but cannot compare it to series X and ps5. It's light years behind in terms of GPU it'll be interesting to see what Devs do when last gen Dev is over.

Series S is a nice option for those of us with monster PCs and gamepass... who wont get wow'd by Series X performance and just need a system to check out the small gamepass games that dont come to PC.

@goldenelementxl: the series s doesn't so sub 1080..its targeted at 1440p but sits somewhere in between 1080p to 1440p. I'd say it's closer to 1440p. Also I said it before but there is no difference between 1080p and 4k when you sit like 6ft away from the TV like most people.

Also, why even talk about resolution and graphics? Look at the switch beating all the consoles using Xbox 360 level hardware in 2021. The series S is light years ahead of the switch.

No one cares. I don't care if it runs 720p. None of that is really noticeable when you're playing and lost in environment of the game. What do you do, sit there critiquing every pixel instead of actually enjoying your games?

I can't imagine the uselessness of even spending my time thinking about something so trivial.

Plenty of people care. The existence of Digital Foundry is based on people caring about this stuff.

I would choose the Series X over the Series S in my theater room. Why? The resolution. So that’s why the Series X is in there, and the Series S in in a different room on a 50” TV. That screen size is more forgiving to the Series S’s output resolution.

Play botw docked on a 85” TV and tell me resolution doesn’t matter. The Switch is basically a handheld only for me because of that. It doesn’t mean the games aren’t great. They are. But when you have options, these things matter.

Don't be ridiculous. You're just regurgitating marketing hype. Most people have no idea what 4k even is, and certainly have no clue what the framerate and resolution is of the games they play. Complete fanboy nonsense.
