@lustgreedenvy: Shenmue 1 sold over a million copies. You can expect hundreds of thousands of people still remember it fondly, or it wouldn't have got funded and broke all records.

@Slannmage: You've never played more than an hour of Shenmue then. There are tons of real action moments, with actual battles and actual gameplay. It uses the Virtua Fighter engine for combat.

Crossley's response to being called out by Nelva on his misreporting of Nelva's own interview (due to the fact that this article is clickbait and complete misrepresentation):

"Honestly, I have no interest in envenomed public debate. You think I'm spinning for traffic, I think you're being soft. Laters."

AND THIS IS THE KIND OF CRAP THAT'S CAUSING YOU TO LOSE TRAFFIC, GAMESPOT. An editor thinks people are "being soft" for insisting he doesn't flat out lie in order to garner clicks. What a douchebag. Final straw. I'm out. Deleting my account in a few days after this has had a chance to be read. You should be ashamed of yourself for your damned constant sham reporting, hatchet jobs, poorly researched news, and click baiting.

I'm not sure why everyone is going ape about this. He's being honest. It's been confirmed that Sony are ONLY helping with marketing and physical production, not with development, so of course they needed more money to make it AAA. They would have needed more money even if it'd raised 30 million. But the point here is that he's doing what he can with the budget he's got. He's not saying it to beg for more money, he's just being up-front about what can realistically be done on that budget (+ modest amounts from Shibuya etc), and saying his solution is to concentrate on story rather than graphics. Not only is his honesty refreshing in this modern age of corporate shovelware, but his solution is also a POSITIVE.

Dreamfall Chapters was made on a much smaller budget, and it turned out looking good enough. Dreamfall's job is to tell a good story, and in that it's continuing to succeed. Shenmue will follow suit with this, so I don't think anyone needs to be panicking. And neither do they need to be shitting all over Yu Suzuki just because he's telling it like it is.

End of the day, most of these gaming journalism sites seem to be very much anti-Shenmue, and have been for about 6 years. Perhaps it's because it's not a traditional game in that gameplay isn't the focus, but experience and exploration and immersion and story is. Or maybe it's just hipster to hate on games you know nothing about, except for watching the first, slow hour on a Youtube channel once. But guess what? All of your "it'll never happen" BS and derisive snorting every time Shenmue 3 was mentioned means NOTHING. We're getting Shenmue, and I hope it annoys the hell out of you all.

@cboye18 I'd rather play something with a story, personally, and I'm 32. But this is preferable to COD.

@Vexov I sometimes make female characters first just because I want to play as somebody who isn't me. That's the whole point of role playing.

@esqueejy How does it not make sense to you that one game only has so much budget and manpower? EA aren't going to ever drop more money on a game than they need to, and adding multiplayer to that game might make it sell a little more, but it's still only 1 sale per copy. As such, if they didn't add multiplayer to it there would very likely be a little more money and manpower available to make the single player experience.

I invent a personality and character for my RPG experience who isn't me. I'm currently playing a huge, religious, warrior black dude, and I'm a slim white male. To me the whole point of a "role playing" game is to play a role other than yourself, as you might in a session of d&d (which i don't personally enjoy, but I like the concept).

@TheLeftHandDoom

Thallus, Tacitus, and many other pre-3rd century Romans wrote about Jesus, though few were alive during his time, some were. As Jesus wasn't even of particular renown outside Judaea during his lifetime, it seems only logical that there weren't many historians writing accounts of him at the time. The consensus amount 1st-3rd century Roman writers seems to be that the execution of a man named Jesus did happen. And thus, it's a historical comparison.
