Which is great! Right now they have a reputation of crushing the soul out of their studios.

Which I no longer I agree with. Its been long enough since they were like that. They haven't crushed Turn 10, Playground, 343 or the Coalition. Rare seems to like working and nobody has complained about gamepass including Obsidian. Seems like a bitch ass cry babies living in the past at this point are the only ones that don't recognize the changing.

I disagree. With the exception of Turn 10 and Obsidian, every other dev seems to have been stuck working on the same IPs this gen. Rare finally made something that wasn't a remaster or Kinect game since Kinect was dropped. Playground made four Horizon games back to back. 343 has been on Halo and Coalition on Gears. And those games with the exception of Horizon have been on the decline in critical acclaim.

They are certainly putting in the effort to turn things around and I'm curious to see if they can shake this reputation off.

Millions love Halo and Gears, so it's good that they continue to push out those IP's. Gamers want them. Gamers want Mario, Gamers want God of War. The fact that Coalition is making Gears of War, Gears Tactics and outsourced Gear Pop is a nice change from just a single Gears game. Gears 5 getting an 84 isn't what I would call a negative or a decline in the IP. If we looked at how UC Lost Legacy scored (83), that means we would say that UC is on decline in critical acclaim (which it is not). There are so many people excited about Halo Infinite, myself being one of them. The fact that MS has added more and more studios and told those studios to make what they want, is a good thing. That is what I have liked about Sony, they give their studios free reign. It's good that MS is doing it, and it's good that Sony has been doing it.

MC Scores:

Halo 97 | Halo 2 95 | Halo 3 94 | Halo 4 87 | Halo 5 84

GeoW 94 | GeoW 2 93 | GeoW 3 91 | GeoW 4 84 | Gears 5 84

I'd call that a decline. And if we were to count Uncharted Lost Legacy, I would call that a decline to since ND released 5 Uncharted games and their last entry wasn't as stellar as previous entries. Which is why they claimed that this would be the last entry for Uncharted and hopefully we'll see something new from them next gen.

The fact that MS has added more and more studios and told those studios to make what they want, is a good thing

I agree and I'm not arguing that. Just look at what's happened at Activision. They had a hit with Call of Duty last gen and rotated multiple devs to do Call of Duty every year. And every year since Black Ops, Call of Duty gets less stellar reviews and declining sales. The latest entry is the most interesting and polished, yet it scored a 7 here. MS was going the Activision route and I'm glad they're turning away from that strategy with their new studios.

I am bummed by the 7 that COD got here for this one. This is the COD I have been waiting for this entire gen. I love it. :(

I haven't really been paying attention, but I don't really understand the hype. I've seen no sign that this SW game will be better than recent SW games. That trailer was just some cinematic bullshit and made me even less interested. I'm not a fan of either EA or Respawn. Game reminds me of Force Unleashed, another SW game I don't care about.

I'll let the early adopters tell me if it's just an average and derivate action game with a SW theme, or if it's something that's actually worth playing.

This is not the game you are looking for.

I thought it was pure shit. So, no, not universal. Worst Ninja Theory game I've ever played.

Not sure why you put that quote to me. I never said any such thing. But I do love Hellblade.

I know you didn't. My apologies.

No worries. I just saw that quote and I was like, "was I drunk". I never use the phrase "universal acclaim" lol.

Why does everyone think theres going to be pro version of consoles? That little experiment failed,

That experiment was actually a success. I can totally see a PS5 Pro and Xbox 4 X this upcoming gen, mid cycle refresh. Myself and millions of others are loving our mid cycle refresh consoles.

That's even before it's sunset time period with lower cost and a successor on the market. Pretty sure the PS4 has a good shot of overtaking the PS2 at this rate.

Congrats Sony.

Yeah, sales are not slowing down. And when the next price drop hits, it will only bump the sales up even more.

Luigi's Mansion is probably a game I will end up getting after it is discounted. I don't play my Switch often enough, but it's not really the fault of the console, but my priorities. I spend most of my time with PC/Xbox and a fair amount on my PS4, that getting in Switch time is a bit tough.

@x_hedon: I forgot to tell you this. Jedi Fallen Order will have 4 difficulty like:

  1. Story/Easy-taking less damage, longer parry counter-attacks, enemies less aggressive.
  2. Jedi Knight/Normal-game plays as it intends to do it's own thing, balance.
  3. Jedi Master/hard-Small parry window and cal takes more damage.
  4. Grandmaster/very hard-more damage taken, small parry, enemies more aggressive.

Story is more suited for your liking.

Good good good.

Could use a nice, single-player, story-driven Star Wars game, hopefully free of microtransactions (or at least not have the store in-game and in your face screaming BUY MORE SHIIIIIIIIIIIT!)

I don't think Respawn/EA are lying when they say Jedi Fallen Order will not have microtransaction/loot boxes and won't be added after launch. Disney probably doesn't want anymore bad PR after Battlefront 2 disaster. Episode 9 is just around the corner, not that I care about the movie myself.

Also Respawn using Unreal Engine 4 not Frostbite Engine. Frostbite Engine is rumored to be partially to blame for Anthem and Mass Effect Andromeda being so buggy and the cancellation of Visceral Star War game and closer of the studio.

I think Jedi Fallen Order looks good and plain on buying next year.

EA has clearly said their will be no microtransactions since this is a single player game only and Respawn also told them they do not want any of that crap in their game since day one. I know EA gets more crap cause they always never learned and this time around, seems like they came to their sense and go do what CDPR route.

Funny thing is, EA is actually riding the Mandalorian hype train (then episode 9) since both of their trailers release. Unreal Engine 4 has always been a much better engine then Frostbite engine and you can tell they pick the right engine for this type of game.

Story is clearly the route I will take then. I will be picking this game up.

They won't look like CGI really, no moreso than every iterative generation's move forward. I mean what we're playing now is the CGI of 2 gens ago no doubt, but by now CGI has also been improving. Still a long, long way to go before graphics of CGI and games peak and become fully indistinguishable.

At any rate, I don't give a shit about graphics anymore. 3 generations of iterative graphics updates (or lousy motion controls otherwise) have left me profoundly bored with graphics as an upgrade. I think it's about time we start looking at standardizing dramatic improvements to AI, physics, interactivity, and other technical aspects that don't rely on visual fidelity.

I could not agree more. I would love for that to be the focus. If they accomplish that, THEN work on the graphics.
