@b74kd3th @nick_capozzoli Hmm, that's quite a loaded question!
A review is by definition, I think, the author's view of the game. That view is built on the author's values: what they like and dislike, what they feel has artistic merit, what they feel was wrong, or, in this case, what they think is cruel. The author conveys that take, in what's hopefully a logical way that the reader can understand and marinate on. Maybe they agree, maybe they disagree, maybe they forget about it.
I feel that DR3's psychopath battles go for humor--which is fine at face value--but that sometimes they try to achieve that humor by having a laugh at characters expressly for being age-old harmful stereotypes. I found it mean-spirited, and don't feel that the game's irreverent tone is enough to justify it.
You're free to disagree, of course. But I can only be honest about my take.
@jerusaelem @nick_capozzoli So, GS doesn't convey anything to me about the clicks any of my pieces get. Practically speaking, I do regular reviews here, which is just to say that I pretty much pick up a new one right when the last gets turned in. That's been the case for me since my very first review, about a year ago. So there's really not enough information out there for me (or anyone else) to deduce that I'm incentivized to be artificially sensational.
Speaking person to person, let me assure you that I haven't given a single thought to the subject. I do like seeing comments on my "smaller" reviews, but that's just so that I know *somebody* actually read them.
To the rest: I think it's possible to make interesting remarks about a game of any particular style. And sorry you don't like my writing style, but c'est la vie.
I'm happy to answer questions, and not necessarily just what I'd call "safe" ones. But please keep in mind I'm doing so solely of my own volition. I believe in, and enjoy communicating with readers, because I want to foster understanding both ways--but I'm under no obligation to deal with any abusive or aggressive comments.
@beowulf66677 @nick_capozzoli Cool! Camp's not usually my bag, but I can get on board with it when I feel like it's being more even-handed, or when it's making a statement. Just didn't feel that with this one.
