Not the greatest game Sid Meier has ever endorsed, but definitely one worth playing.

User Rating: 8 | Sid Meier's Pirates! PSP
Sid Meier's Pirates is more or less a pirate simulator. Unfortunately it isn't quite as fleshed out as it could possibly be, but for what it is, it can definitely keep you glued to your PSP for hours on end.

GAMEPLAY - You play a pirate captain of Spanish, British, French, or Dutch heritage. Each team has a different set-up, but basically you're trying to make a name for yourself, and one of the best ways to do that is to serve your country. Most of the game is spent doing quests and attacking other ships. It's almost like an open-world RPG in that there isn't really a central story or anything that you absolutely have to do in order to make the story progress. It's just simple fun, but the lack of direction can turn some people off, myself included. It's still a fun game, but I'm more of a fan of the Civilization series personally. - 7.5/10

STORY - No story to speak of, really. You pretty much make your own story as you go along, and again, there isn't any real direction other than the occasional quest. - 7.5/10

GRAPHICS - The graphics are decent, but definitely are starting to look dated. From what I've heard, there are different versions of this game to come out, and I think it's about time that they make another version to update the graphics and add more stuff to do in terms of gameplay. - 7/10

SOUND - The pirate-y music sets a nice atmosphere, but there isn't much else worth mentioning here. Nothing terrible going on though. - 8.5/10

LENGTH/REPLAY VALUE - Despite all else, you know that a Sid Meier game is going to be fun while it lasts, and it will always be a different experience each time. This is definitely one that will stay in your collection long after you've beaten it if it's your type of game. - 9.5/10

BOTTOM LINE - This is one of those games that is a great value. If you enjoy it, you'll never want to get rid of it, but again, the lack of direction can turn some people off. I find it to be a fun game, but it's hard for me to sit down and get to the point where I finish a game because I just lose interest. It's not for everyone, but it definitely is a very special game. If you enjoy strategy, adventure, and questing, chances are you'll have fun with this game. - 8/10
