I need help to find late 80's arcade sidescrolling game.

Hello guys, I am trying to find a game I played in the late 80's on Arcade.

It was a platform / side scroller / side view/ 2D. It was an action game and the main character was holding a shield, and he could move it in any direction to protect himself from arrows (or maybe shurikens)

As I recall, the game was very dark and the shield was round shaped. The first stage was like a cave or a dungeon and the predominant color was purple (or grey).

The main character size was similar to Ghoul's and Ghosts, but I don't think it was human. There was no throwing sword, it was a shield instead. People hated the game 'cause it was very difficult...
