I always wanted to ask this question on Games Discussion but this Retro board is most suitable here. But anyways, I really enjoy Game Gear when the handheld had colors and such, my top 5 games are:

  1. Sonic Blast
  2. Shinobi
  3. Prince of Persia
  4. Alien
  5. Head Busters

Those are my top 5 but I only own 7 total Game Gear games growing up in the 90s.

I have owned a total of two Sega Game gear games. They were The Lion King and NBA Jam. The Lion King was my favorite out of those choices.

Check out:

Psychic World - a surprisingly sophisticated platformer with items and a magic system

Sonic The Hedgehog - of course (and Sonic 2)

Star Wars (US GOLD) - really sweet for the Star Wars and platformer fan

Star Wars Return of the Jedi - also really sweet

Aerial Assault - a simplistic but oddly addictive side-scroller shooter

I've only once had a game gear in my hands as it was the possession of my friends dad, so i've only played about 20 minutes of shinobi...

Road Rash. I didn't play too many games on Game Gear though. One game can easily eat up the six AA batteries in no time.

I watched TV via the TV tuner add-on which was awesome. I had the Game Gear with me whenever I traveled abroad for much of the 90's.

I don't remember most of my GameGear games. The only two that come to mind are

  • Sonic Chaos
  • Sonic Triple Trouble

I played the hell out of those on family road trips.

If it weren't for the car light adaptor, I would have used a mountain of batteries. The GameGear used six batteries at a time and drained'em quick.

Game Gear was a bad console. Very close to approaching PS4 level of bad. Crap buttons, crap dpad, crap screen, as big as a phone book.

Game Gear is one of my favorite classic systems. I've had mine since 1991 and just recently had the capacitors replaced. The system works like it's practically new now. That said, I'll be opening up and cleaning the system and the 28 games I have for it. I even made a new case for it that is foam padded. Man... I loved my Game Gear and took it everywhere with me back in the day.

My top five Game Gear games include:

- Sonic Triple Trouble

- Jurassic Park

- Streets of Rage 2

- Crash Dummies

- Ecco the Dolphin

After I got my system fixed, it had no audio due to bad capacitors, I bought a couple games including Primal Rage and Battletoads. Battletoads is still in the mail, but I could see it taking a top 5 spot.

I've been experimenting with LED backlight mod for my GameGear - dramatically improves battery life, but also unfortunately reduces image quality (in THEORY this is avoidable, but it's easier said than done in my experience so far)

I only remember two games specifically Shinobi and a Mickey Mouse game (by far my favorite)!

Shinobi 1 and 2 are among the best shinobis out there second to the arcade original.
