Last of Us 2 - PS5 edition inbound... Confirmed 1/19/24

I kind of figured they'd do something for the next season of the show. I really am just not into knowing that talented people are being creative by means of remastering games. It's where art goes to die in this medium. I'm sure they'll say, "we want to bring new people into the last of us bla bla bla" but in reality it would appear Naughty Dog doesn't want to be creative anymore.

How do you approach this topic system wars? Would you rather developers focus on taking us to new places and new experiences or is tieing up a talented developer with double dips on known ip, especially over short time frames, OK with you?

Totally expected this to happened, so no surprised to see this popping up. I'd be shock if the PC version for Part 2 isn't gonna released along side cause Part 2 is 3yrs old at this point.

Sony fanboys will eat this up faster than that remote play thingy they're fawning over.

Bought the PS4 version a while ago, so absolutely zero interest in this. Now that I got the Portal, I can actually play videagames! Will get to it right after I finally finish FFXVI.

Not surprised at all really. Personally I don’t mind remasters and remakes. I’ve purchased quite a few and enjoy them very much and I’ll likely continue to do so in the future.

at least when Sony remasters it, they actually remaster it, unlike Nintendo who ports most of their remasters and calls them remasters lol

Sony charging $10 upgrade but MS doesn't force its gamers to pay any upgrade paths from last-gen to current-gen. I get that $10 may seem chump change (which I'm not judging anyone paying for whatever they desire) but Sony can easily give this away for free IMO.

I’m gonna be honest now that I saw it’s for real, this is a massive, massive turn off for the PS brand for me. It’s getting made fun of like crazy already, rightfully so. PS has no games.

This is not about Nintendo, this is about Sony and remastering a game that is 3yrs old. Its beyond pathetic.

Learn from wenzen and put shit on Sony for this because ND are wasting development time/resources remastering this game rather than putting its team into creating something new even if it was a sequel to this game would be better than a remaster.

As for Nintendo, well when they release a remaster I will put crap on them too, and if MS was doing this, I would be putting crap on them too.

You just can't seem to call Sony out for anything, and it's too late for you this far into your SW life to change.

From a developer operations standpoint: A remake/remaster can be quite good if you are bringing on a lot of new people and looking to spin up new teams. It's a good way to get them up to speed on any in house tooling and learning the way things are done internally. The team has a clear idea what they need to produce so just go do it.

I doubt many people that actually made the original PS4 game are involved in this update. Last I heard, they are working on some GAAS nonsense that is destined to crash and burn.

Personally I have no interest in the series though. Not my cuppa. If they are going to remake something, I'd rather they dig further back in Sonys history and look to remake that. Anything to be said for rebooting Wipeout? Maybe look at completely overhauling the original Killzone? Or Resistance? The original uncharted could also do with some work (or did that get overhauled for the PS4 already? I can't remember).

PS4 games should not be getting a full remake treatment. Leave that to the PS6 or 7.

Actually the $10 upgrade would go towards the actual work that was done, which is good for the workers 😎

I think the issue with Sony in this case is not the fact that this is a remaster. But rather what they remaster.

People loved the Metroid Prime Remaster and the Resident Evil 4 remake. And if Sony remastered Bloodborne, I would go and buy a PS5 on release day.

If workers at Naughty Dog were treated well, they would not have a 70% attrition rate. The Naughty Dog of old is long gone. Meanwhile Larian retains its employees. Which is why each game is better than their last.

Edit: And before anyone accuses me of being inconsistant. I can acknowledge that a game is well made, even if I think the game itself is a sleeping pill.
