Volition Games (Red Faction/Saints Row) Closes Effective Immediately

Looks like they at least got their final content out and patches before they closed up shop. This sad news for those that are being laid off. What say you fellow SW friends! Are you going to miss their games? I know I will, I loved Saints Row 2022 as well as Red Faction 1 and 2.

I'll always remember them for Freespace. 2 amazing games and there really should be a 3rd.

Volition had a history of pushing the envelop with content, not just with Saints Row.

It was Embracer that made them going more mainstream, or "woke" as you would put it.

Volition didnt deserve to be shut down, or criticism should be redirected toward Embracer

Didn't think of that, but kvally made this thread to discract us from the biggest flop since the mid 2000's? WOW.

I'm pretty saddened by this. I had a great time with their games (except Agents of Mayhem). I didn't really care for the direction of the newest Saints Row, but I didn't think it would be a studio killer. Fucking Embracer took on all these devs they knew they couldn't afford and have to purge a great chunk of them now to stay afloat. Isn't gaming consolidation wonderful?

Fond memories of Red faction and the good Saints row games. Reboot was ass though.

I tried playing the new Saints Row on Steam and just couldn’t…the shooting was horrendous for me

its like @mesome713 says...they didn't go woke enough, and thats why they're going broke. Real shame.

Exceptional. Fantastic game. I also loved the first. The intro is still chilling. But yeah, the second is one of the sequals that is a very comprehensive upgrade in basically every area.

I remember just walking into the game shop one day and there it was, in all its big old style PC box Glory....Freespace2. I was in disbelief when i saw it. I had no idea it was coming (internet wasn't a big thing where i live back then). I think they also developed in on a very tight deadline (18 months of something crazy).

I also had a big logitech force feedback joystick which worked really well with the game. If a capital ship blew up near by i had to really fight the thing. Double up on hornet missiles while charging head first at a bunch of Shivans and.....yeah, good times :).

Disappointed enjoyed red faction a lot on 360 saints row was a dead franchise after 3.

Never played a Saints Row that wasn't terrible but it's always sad to see game companies fail.

Kinda bummed that Sony didn't buy them out so they can have Saints Row as their exclusive shooter.

Anyway, this is a bummer. Volition really excelled as a AA developer, but the push to make everything AAA 10-million sellers has killed off most of the studios like this. I suppose we should be happy they lasted this long, but it's a shame to go out on a low note.
