Resident Evil 4 - Treasures And Gemstones Guide

You can earn a lot of pesetas by selling Treasures and Gemstones in Resident Evil 4.

Comments

Resident Evil 4 is filled with various Treasures, precious items that can be sold to the Merchant in exchange for pesetas, the game's regular currency. Apart from that, you can also socket a few of them with Gemstones, increasing their value further. Here's our Resident Evil 4 Treasures and Gemstones guide hub to help you with some loot-finding and money-making tips.

Resident Evil 4 Treasures and Gemstones guide hub

We've divided our Resident Evil 4 Treasures and Gemstones guide hub into several sections. We detail the important concepts related to this particular feature, as well as some tips to keep you rolling in dough.

Treasure Maps

Perhaps the most important facets when you want to acquire Resident Evil 4 Treasures and Gemstones are the Treasure Maps. These are sold by the Merchant whenever you reach a major zone, and they only cost a small amount of Spinels. Since they reveal all the Treasures as diamond icons on your map, they're absolutely worth it.

Left: Treasure Maps are relatively cheap; Right: And they show all the valuable loot in a given zone.

Different kinds of Treasures and their method of acquisition

We also have to consider the different ways you can acquire Resident Evil 4 Treasures and Gemstones. Here's the gist:

  • Enemy drops - It's possible for enemies to drop valuable loot. This tends to be guaranteed when you bring down special infected, such as the Chainsaw Villager, Pigheads, and Garradors.
  • Simple containers - Some items can be found just by opening regular containers like boxes and cabinets.
  • Hanging Lanterns - These are fairly common. If ever you look at the map and see a diamond icon but there's no container around, look above you to spot if there's a Hanging Lantern. These need to be shot so the Treasure can fall to the ground. There are, however, a few exceptions:
    • The Hanging Lantern in the Farm is attached to a windmill. You must shoot it when it's off to the right so it doesn't fall into the dirty water.
    • The Hanging Lantern in the Woods just after you use the Hexagonal Emblem is above a well. You'll need to shoot the wooden board so it covers the dirty water.
Left: Special infected mobs tend to drop jewels; Right: Most lanterns can be shot as is, but you'll want to watch out for those that might sink down dirty pools of water.
  • Locked Drawers - These will probably leave you stumped early in the campaign (there's on in the Village Square that you can't open). However, once you acquire Small Keys, you'll be able to grab your rewards. You can learn more in our Locked Drawers/Small Keys guide.
  • Wayshrines and Cubic Device Boxes - These containers look a bit more ornate and they require a special key to be unlocked. Don't worry since, unlike Small Keys, these won't disappear upon a single use. You can learn more in our Wayshrines/Cubic Device guide.
  • Ashley's Treasure Keys - You'll also be able to control Ashley for a time. She'll receive a key that lets her open various containers. You can learn more in our Ashley Treasures and Puzzles guide.
  • Miscellaneous sources - Some optional tasks will also yield valuable stuff, such as the Hexagon Piece Altar Puzzle.

Backtrack with Ashley when possible

As you progress further in the campaign, you'll notice spots with yellow paint markings or boost icons. You won't be able to do anything just yet, but, once you have Ashley as a companion, Leon can do boost actions. This will allow Ashley to climb up to open a door or bring down a ladder.

Here's the kicker: you'll often need to backtrack to return to some of these areas when Ashley is with you, or once you have the means available. It might take a while, and there could be new enemies, but you'll have to make an attempt if you want to grab more Resident Evil 4 Treasures and Gemstones. Here are some examples:

  • The house in the Village Square with the ruined rooftop.
  • The Village Elder's bedroom has a ladder that Ashley can use.
  • Once you have a boat and you can fully explore the lake, a small section west of the Merchant's dockyard leads to the cliffside of the Quarry area.
  • Similar to the above, you can sail to the Lakeside Settlement to the north (where you first encountered Luis). Apart from some goodies in the hut, the Insignia Key can be used to reach a small area called the Forest Altar.
  • In the Castle Battlements, you'll have to kill the El Gigante boss with a cannon shot. While you're doing this, you'll notice that the other side of the ramparts is inaccessible. However, if you go back to this area in the next chapter, you should find a path, which leads to a Treasure, a Yellow Herb, and a Clockwork Castellan.
  • After escaping the Wine Cellar in the Castle, you'll spot a small collapsed area that Ashley can climb. Return here later once she and Leon are reunited, but watch out for the Living Armor. You can get a Depraved Idol here (15,000 pesetas).
  • Speaking of the Wine Cellar, the room itself will be cleared of enemies. If you weren't able to grab it before, you can check the back of the room to get the Mirror with Pearls and Rubies (10,000 pesetas).

Gemstone Colors and Prices

The Resident Evil 4 Treasures and Gemstones also have different prices:

  • Round - Ruby (3,000), Sapphire (4,000), and Yellow Diamond (7,000).
  • Square - Emerald (5,000), Alexandrite (6,000), and Red Beryl (9,000).

Gemstone Bonuses

And, finally, we'll have to discuss the Resident Evil 4 Gemstone Bonuses. Most Treasures you find will have "for selling only" written, which means you can just hand them to the Merchant as is. However, there are those with sockets, allowing you to place Gemstones that match the shape (i.e., round or square). A multiplier will then be applied depending on the base value of the item, the base value of each jewel, the number of sockets, and the combination.

  • Two colors - x1.1
  • Duo (same color) - x1.2
  • Three colors - x1.3
  • Trio (same color) - x1.4
  • Two duos - x1.5
  • Four colors - x1.6
  • Quartet (same color) - x1.7
  • Duo and trio - x1.8
  • Quintet (same color) - x1.9
  • Five colors - x2.0

For instance, the Elegant Crown item can be sold for 19,000 pesetas. But, because it has five sockets, we can maximize our Resident Evil 4 Treasure and Gemstone Bonuses. If we go with the five colors combination, and with the value of certain gems, the item becomes more valuable as it can be sold for 100,000 pesetas.

The Elegant Crown, which initially sells for 19,000, can be made into an expensive item that sells for 100,000.
