A very fun (and very short) NES adventure

User Rating: 7 | Felix the Cat NES
Felix the Cat was a 1992 NES title that went a bit under the radar when it was initially released, but it has been later praised by many retro gamers as one of the better platform/adventure games for the console. The graphics are excellent for an 8-bit system (at times they almost look like a Super Nintendo title) and the game's rather simple level design makes it a fun playthrough for gamers with a few hours on their hands.

The game itself is fairly typical of an NES side-scrolling adventure title, but the difficulty is much less punishing than many other Nintendo titles. As a matter of fact, I didn't have to use any continues during my first playthrough, and I beat the game in around 3 or 4 hours. This is a pretty short and easy game in all honesty, but it is quite a bit of fun for what it is. I especially like the sleek graphic design, catchy music, and reliable control scheme.

Felix the Cat consists of 9 different 'worlds', each of which is made of 3 individual stages. The final stage in each world contains a boss battle - towards the beginning they are laughably easy, but they do get tougher as the game progresses. If you don't have the proper arsenal, a few of the later bosses will be a bit of a challenge, albeit not a huge one.

Overall, Felix the Cat is a pretty fun title. It's not a forgotten masterpiece by any stretch, but it's definitely an entertaining playthrough for retro gaming enthusiasts. Although I wouldn't spend a whole lot of money trying to hunt down this cartridge (after all, you'll only get a weekend of playtime at max), Felix the Cat is very much worth taking a look at if you're using an emulator or can find it for a cheap price.
