So true, lots of people didn't. But in my book, he was the best, right after Nicholson. This one is going to be in its own class almost, because its a different version. He seem to be a good fit to me. Can't wait ..

DC live action movies haven't always been great, save Nolan's Batman trilogy. They're rushing it, trying to match Marvel's success while having dark overtones from Nolan's Batman. That said, I'm still hyped but skeptical for Suicide Squad and Batman vs Superman.
That said, this Joker's voice is pretty good and seems that Jared Leto can play a proper Joker. Can't say I like the tattoos or the teeth.
I'm waiting to see his performance before I decide. I hated Nicholsons's Joker, way too campy. If I'd wanted that I'd just watch Cesar Romero. Heath came closest to the Joker I'd always wanted to see on screen but I'll add so far because I haven't seen Leto's attempt yet but I hate the freaking tattoos. Makes the Joker seem like seem emo kid high on meth.

Have not, but I have been hearing Hamill's excellent Joker interpretation since 1992.
We'll see what happens. Jared Leto is a good actor, and we saw his acting for ten seconds. If anything, it seemed to Ledgery, but was otherwise very decent.
I think he fits the comic book/ cartoon Joker very good. Dark knights joker was a more realistic approach in my opinion. So I dont really mind. Also the laugh in the trailer was great.

Not everybody liked Heath Ledger's Joker, and not everybody will like Leto's.
As far as Leto's goes, I really do not like the tattoos. I mean come on, we get it, the Joker is crazy...The word 'damaged' is tattooed across his forehead for shit's sake, why???

Joker is'nt supposed to be a hipster gangbanger.
But Heath's joker looks closer? Come on. They might not be an exact match but Leto's joker comes the closest in capturing contemporary comic joker.

Leto's Joker may be closer to the comics but they got him all wrong, which kind of makes it worse :) Seriously, don't fucking tattoo "damaged" on the Joker's forehead..... The "hahahahahaha" one is already bad enough. The Joker is mental but he's far from edgy.
I guess that's my problem with the new Joker. They're trying way too hard to make him edgy

I finally got around to watching the thing and all kidding aside about sparkly vampire teenybob cinema there is nothing really wrong with it.
It looks better than most dc projects and at least the entire team is not a bunch of unbeatable gods that have to fight jesus + aliens + god+ super kryptonian ebolasyphilisarreah to have a challenge.
People said exactly the same bullshit about Ledger and now he's the most loved Joker of them all.
I in fact like what Leto is doing (what little has been shown). He is really channeling the "psychotic evil" side of the character, while Ledger was more of a "chaotic evil" type.
Then there is Jack Nicholson, Cesar Romero and even Mark Hammil Jokers, which are all different from Ledger.
The Joker is a character archetype that can be interpreted in many different ways (just look at the comics and the vastly different ways he's been portrayed over the years) and saying you don't like him for merely superficial reasons (the way the character is acted is most telling about that person's interpretation) is just dumb.

In this film Joker looks scarier and darker in my opinion. At first I didn't like the new look but it has definitely grown on me, he looks twisted and crazed which I think will work very well with this film. Also let's not judge a movie before it's even out, I'm sure he will also be charismatic and funny like we're accustomed to seeing with the Joker. 2016 is going to be so amazing with Superman V Batman and Suicide Squad.

If the Joker were too much like Heath Ledger's people would complain that there was no comparison and the actor should find his own style.
If the Joker made a drastic change people would complain about Heath Ledger or any other Joker in the history of the character because they have fond memories about them.
The first time I saw him, something felt off. Now that you mention it TC, he does look somehow effeminate, which gives him a certain feeling that isn't necessarily bad, but isn't in line with the Joker persona. Bottom line is: I like him but not as a Joke.
If I was a director I wouldn't touch the joker character again until 2020 or after. Or I would have wanted a more classic Joker like Caesar Romero's and Nicholson's. Ledger brought great new interpretation to the character and I knew using it again was going to make the actor and director want to distance themselves from it. I think it failed
