I just played ghouls n ghosts on genesis for the first time, I don't know how I never got around to playing this game, I have played and beaten every other game in the series and have heard great things about this game. I was watching a video on youtube last night that was talking about this game and decided to finally play it.

It was fantastically fun, not nearly as hard as the other games in the series, but tons of fun. When I started the game I had no intention of beating it twice to get the real ending but after my first playthrough I just had to, and the horrifically translated ending made it all worthwhile.

Not sure what I want to play next, although if I could find the time I would love to play chrono trigger, earthbound or final fantasy tactics, none of which I played before.

So what about you guys? What classics did you play the for the first time as an adult? Any classics you plan on playing for the first time in the near future?

I got pretty hardcore into Symphony of the Night for the first time earlier this year. I love the genre, and was always suprised when it never seemed to stick before. This time it did, and I got nearly all 200% in just over a week.

@pook99: You have to play Chrono Trigger. Arguably the greatest rpg of all time. Can't declare any game as number one, but Chrono Trigger is good enough to be in the talks. Wish I could play that again for first time, but in a way a person can do that w/ this game. As you go through it you'll be offered choices that have a significant impact on what happens. From what I can recall there are 7 different endings. Chrono Trigger took rpg gaming to a new level.

Too many to count, especially on the PC side. Just this year I played all the original Half-Life's (with expansions) and right now I'm playing through the Doom's (almost cleared Doom 2. Level 28 right now).

And I have to say I can see why Doom has held up over the years. It has none of the faults you expect from an old game: The difficulty level is fair, movement is precise, fluid and fast and hitboxes are precise as well. The game is so blistering fast that you wouldn't even suspect it was running at a humble 35fps.

Lots, but I'll specifically mention the Mega Man series, because it's become one of my favorite franchises of all time even though I just got into most of the games a couple of years ago.

Medal of Honor Underground ( PS1 ), that was my first "classic" I played as an adult, now that I come to think about it, there is this big gap in years in which I didn´t play between the time I played at the Arcade as a teenager and the time I purchased my first console as an adult; I missed all the NES & SNES era.

A lot, but recently Journey to Silius. It's a fun game but it wasn't too surprising considering I heard it was good and I like other Sunsoft games.

There are quite a bit more NES games that I plan to play this year.

Castlevania SOTN and Chrono Trigger. I've yet to finish either but I'm waiting until I can find a place to set my retro stuff up. I just don't have the room as of now.

Duck Tales got me back into collecting again. I want to get a Saturn because I never had one, but I am mainly collecting 2600, SNES, NES, and Genesis.

Half Life, the original on PS2. Loved HL2 to death, it`s one of my all time favorites, so i can`t believe i waited 15 years to give it a chance (completed it almost 2 years ago). One of the reasons i didn`t give it a chance are the graphics, it`s not that i`m one of those graphic whores, it`s just that i believe some games are best played around the time of their release, especially old 3D games. Once i get past the ancient graphics i got completely immersed, brilliant level design & enviromental puzzles. I can`t believe valve cannot donate some of their millions to those enthusiasts who almost completed Black Mesa (Half Life remake), i mean they are zillionares right, just give them some money so they can finish it, put the thing on steam, XBLA & PSN. You`ll get your money back, i think a lot of people would buy it.

I have so many friends that constantly chastise me for not playing it, now that I just finished my masters I have some more time to really get into an rpg and it may finally be my time to play it.

You just have to the hang on proper equipping the GF's. I still take very careful of my PS1. So I can still play my Final Fantasy PS1 games.

I forgot to add Deus Ex: The Conspiracy, also for PS2. Played it back in 2011, it`s pretty much the same thing when i was describing Half Life in post above, the only difference is that i like it more then Half Life. This is one of few games i`d like to be remade, what i mean is that i`d like it to be the same game just with modern graphics.

Games like these are so damn rare these days, masterpieces which have incredible level design, fantastic atmospheres & captivating stories.

Well I can't force myself to care you know. If i find a story bland its gonna be bland for the rest of my playthrough. Kinda like how I feel about witcher 2 currently.

I just got done playing System Shock 2 for the first time. It was... a mixed bag for me. The customization and all that was great, but the game had serious pacing issues and (this seems to happen with every Ken Levine game I play) it just got annoying by the end. Like, the randomly generated monsters just felt like a chore when ever I would back track for supplies. IDK. Overall a good game but certain aspects haven't aged well.

Too many to list, that is for sure--esp. if you include the ones that came out when I was already an adult. I never had a SNES growing up so A Link to the Past and Super Mario World are the biggest, most-classic ones to me.

Neo Geo games since I never had one as a kid. I really enjoyed Burning Fight in particular. DJ Boy for the Genesis. Turbo Grafx 16 games and Atari Lynx and 7800 games...never had those systems either.

No kid had Neo Geo growing up unless their parents had a lot of money and seriously spoiled them. $600 for the base unit and cart games ran up to $400 a piece. :)

As to the Op's question, I didn't play Psychonauts or any of the Abe's Odyssey games (except Stranger's Wrath).

I actually did own a neo geo growing up, but it was less about being spoiled and more about my dad trying to compensate for my mom dying and him being out of the house 12 hours a day. I only owned about 4 games or so for the system(the going rate was 220) all of which I saved up for myself by working odd jobs here and there.

On topic, I also did not play psychonauts until very recently, I had heard so much hype about the game, I saw it on steam sale for like 4 bucks, bought it, couldnt play it because it was glitchy as hell so I wound up emulating the ps2 version and got bored of it very quickly.

Conker's Bad Fur Day. To be honest, I'm really glad I'm playing it for the first time now as a 25 year old. I doubt I would have caught any of the movie references or the crude humor. I would have enjoyed the gameplay for sure but playing this game for the first time (And making a let's play series out of it) is loads of fun!

All six Final Fantasy 2D games 1-6 , Classic Zelda games, and Chrono Trigger. As a kid I would hate these types of games but as an adult I enjoyed them very much.

The old harry potter games (years 1 and 2) made by EA for the PS2. I had originally dismissed these as movie tie-in games. These games had me pleasantly surprised. Not the best games around but certainly games with solid gameplay.
