I don't think this is shocking. The most popular games got played the most.

I generally wait for big discounts , so I also spent very little time in 2023 playing 2023 games. Hifi Rush being the big exception . Thanks GP

Don't be fooled, if massive streamers and youtubers weren't a thing, nobody would be playing this piece of shit of a video game. But because gamers are insanely easy to influence, they follow what's popular like a bunch of monkeys.

Look at Rainbow Six Siege. As of late, just because of one massive streamer, the game blew the **** up, and is filled with children now.

All these shit games are pathetic. Helldivers2 is the only live service worth playing (that and PoE i guess). Good dev behind, good gameplay loop, and you don't feel like you're playing a mtx store instead of a game.

I have no issue with this. Most of the above games come from an era where they were trying to innovate and be the best in the genre. They took a solid game and turned it into long-term profitability. Good for them!

I believe if devs/publishers saw that as a model to follow- making an innovative or great game first- and then figure out the long term financial picture later, gaming would be in a much better place today.

But what about those monthly sales?😏

Been playing Rocket League on and off for about 8 years now.

Great game, no matter what I'm playing I'll always fall back into it from time to time. Easy to pick up difficult to master, weirdly both casual and competitive depending on how much you care about ranked.

Good to see a number of Xbox studios games doing so well; Starfield, Minecraft, CoD all in the top 10. Starfield being the only SP game making the list on either Xbox or PS5.

Surprising to see not a single Sony game made the list.

Microsoft has likely been cashing a constant stream of checks since their acquisitions... I mean, they OWN Minecraft and call of duty which generate a constant stream of sales alone... They are likely going to make hand over fist more profit than their hardware division would ever generate.

That's the main problem with the NFL, waaaaaaay too many stoppages, less skill, attacking players can't defend and vice versa. Don't hate the sport, but it's just too slow which makes it boring to watch.

The “less skill” part is absurd. Rugby players are tough, sure. But the average NFL player is MUCH faster, more agile, jumps higher etc. And at most positions the players are likely stronger as well.

@ghostofgolden: They are less skilled, half the team play offence while the other half defence. Players never get tired because the game is stop, start, stop, start all the time.

In our game players kick, tackle, play offence and defence and have minimal stoppages and is played for 40mins before half time as opposed to 4 x 15min quarters where depending on who's got the ball the other half on the team sits on the bench and twiddle their fingers for minutes on end.

No stamina involved in the NFL. Our game doesn't need jumping so, you can have that lol.

Switch seems to be the exception. The average is 3.9 year-old games for Switch, but 7+ year-old games for PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

The games I typically play most on my series S are either the latest nhl game(I didn't play nhl 23 though but I do plan to play nhl 24 eventually), halo infinite/mcc or whatever indie game interests me. I do buy games once or twice a year.

@sargentd: Nobody cares about padded men whooping about carrying a ball 10 yards outside of the US. Your “Super Bowl” was recently celebrated as achieving 123 million viewers, while proper football had an audience of 1.5bn for the World Cup final.

In fact, the “Super” bowl barely gets in the top 10 most watched sporting events. Though I’d hardly call it a sport. More like a gathering of calories.
